Auntie

Today, October 29, is my aunt’s birthday. She was my only aunt as my father was an only child and my mother only had one sibling. She was also my godmother. Auntie lived in Wolverhampton where sh...

Groundhog Day

It feels like Groundhog Day here in Cardiff. Once again the streets are quiet, as all but essential shops are closed. All, that is, except the little decorating shop opposite where the old man wh...

So here we go again, Cardiff, along with most of South Wales, is back in lockdown which means I can’t go home for visits. The government are saying most of the new cases have been caused by peopl...

It’s Chris’s birthday today, he’s 39. It seems strange that Wimbledon isn’t on. He was born on men’s finals day, the day McEnroe won for the first time. It was a blazing hot day and I was in a h...

Stir crazy

I think I have been going a bit stir crazy lately. Just being stuck here is getting to me. We are allowed to drive a short distance to go for a walk now but there is a big problem with that for m...

Delivery people

I really am sick and tired of answering the door here. At home it was so much easier, you just opened the door. The farthest away you could be was in the end bedroom upstairs and then you could c...

I think the world may be undergoing a metamorphosis. Great numbers of people who can see truths that society fails to acknowledge are taking matters into their own hands. It is like the times of ...

Tony's birthday

Yesterday was Tony’s birthday, he is 32; he is my youngest, my baby; I can’t believe it’s 32 years since that June morning when he was born. At that time they had just introduced birth plans; you...

When Louise took Billie to the park yesterday she found that a conspiracy protester had chalked slogans on the path. Well if COVID 19 is a government hoax that must mean that most of the world’s...

Louise's birthday.

On Tuesday I went to post a letter and found they had painted the postbox blue with Thank you NHS on it. There are a lot of NHS workers in this area because the University Hospital of Wales is ju...

Enjoying spring

I went to the small local park with the dog today. The cherry blossom was out and it looked beautiful. It was the first time I have been out since we went shopping last Friday. I have been spen...

The return of community

Louise and I were talking this morning about how things were when I was a child, how there was much more of a sense of community then, people were always there to help out in a crisis. My parents...

It is us who are gone

I went to post a letter this afternoon. It’s the first time I’ve walked up the main road since the lockdown. It was so strange seeing all of the shops and cafes closed and boarded up. It felt lik...

Sad news

I heard yesterday that my friend, Tony, who was in the nursing home following a diagnosis of Altzheimers 2 years ago, died yesterday morning. I don’t know what his illness was, just that his wife...

Social distancing

What a difference a week makes. This time last week we went to the park for our Mother’s Day outing. We were being careful, keeping our distance from other people, but it still felt Ok to go out....

Blowing in the wind

The buildings on the main road we overlook were originally residential. Now most have been converted to shops and businesses, some with flats above. The pavements were wide and most of the shops ...

Alternate universe

When I got up at 8.30 am this morning and went into the living room it felt like being in a different world. This flat is on a busy road about a mile and a half from the centre of Cardiff. The li...

Mother's Day

We had a lovely day yesterday. We went to a local park. There were quite a lot of people but it is a big park and it was possible to keep the 2 meters distance. The sun was shining and the lake w...

Empty shelves

We went shopping yesterday. I was nervous about going but, as well as groceries, I needed to go to the pharmacy to get some co-codamol for my migraines and Louise needed some vegan cheese from th...

The blossom tree

I was feeling a bit down yesterday morning. My trip home was cancelled because I was still not feeling too well; I felt quite feverish Monday evening, but still no other symptoms. I rang Hubby to...

I am really enjoying the spring weather. On Thursday it was warm enough to sit in the garden, albeit with a fleece over my jumper. I managed to prune some roses when I was at home on Wednesday an...

Brick walls and queues

Earlier today I was just putting in some washing and looking forward to a nice relaxing day after a rather stressful week when my phone rang. It was Cat who was out walking the dog. ‘Mum,’ she sa...

Beautiful late summer day

It was a beautiful day here on Thursday, hardly a cloud in the sky. Cat was doing her weight lifting and I couldn’t stay in, so I walked round to the main road and went into the charity shops. O...

Crumbs!

As if I didn’t have enough to cope with my laptop died last night. Cat is going to try to fix it while I am away. I came home this evening and, as usual, when I haven’t been here, the place is a ...

Fed up

I am totally fed up. The tooth that has been harassing me for over a year started playing up again at the end of last week. I rang the specialist on Friday. That was a marathon in itself, 6 phone...

Book Description

I live in a terraced cottage on a hillside in South Herefordshire, UK. We are just in England but from our windows we have a view of the Black Mountains which are in Wales. I live with my husband, 2 grown up sons and 4 cats, we also have a daughter who lives with her boyfriend in South Wales.

I don’t have good health but I do voluntary work on a crisis helpline. I love writing. I write poetry and have written a book about my childhood growing up in a pub in Shrewsbury which I am hoping to get published.

I love music. I sing and play guitar and enjoy entertaining, though I don’t get to do that so much as before my health got bad. My other interests are psychology, the environment, history, gardening, genealogy and travel.

Because of my health I am home a lot and this is my view from the terrace..
