The Kitchen

What a week to get to the kitchen of this house! It’s Thanksgiving in a few days, and a day spent in the kitchen putting together a huge meal for a bunch of people if you are fortunate to have fa...

The Bathroom

Can you believe a mere century ago, most homes in the country had no indoor plumbing? The bathroom was an outhouse if you were lucky. I’ve seen houses which were modified to include a bathroom, a...

The Living Room

I figure the first real room to visit as a guest is some sort of living area. In my old house, that was called the living room, and while it had an entrance of its own (the front door) it was rar...

Hallways

Every house has a hallway. Some have several. The hallway provides a place for rooms to open onto, rather than opening onto each other. The hallway gives privacy and can take it away, too. Hallwa...

The Foyer

Now that we have sorted out the basement, it’s time to go inside the house. The finer homes have a foyer, and in the one in my mind does. The truth is, of the many entrances to my childhood and c...

The Basement

Basements are interesting places in some houses. The word actually conjures a bit of a dark feeling to it, as though something relegated to the basement has been banished into an netherworld of s...

Front Porch Light

Sometimes there is a gleam from the past. It sparkles, capturing attention. The entrancing, glittering picture inspires the dream of what could have been. The picture is not clear, but familiar. ...

The Back Porch

When I am sitting at my computer, I look through the faux french door back door (only one door opens, the other is decoration. Alas, a stupid design if there ever was one) Today it is filled with...

Living Space

I never realized how important living space really is. I find I get very agitated when there is clutter; and in my house there is clutter. I like having things neat and organized, but the other t...

Arranging the Space

I have a new found like of Ariana Grande, so as I arrange my thoughts, I am blasting her music. Not sure it provokes the profound thought that something like Muse or Metallica does, but its cheer...

Remodeling

I’m carefully fiddling with settings, and examining all the twists and turns of the site. It is a very clean and practical interface, which is great. I love the thought of books separating topics...

Forward

Most books begin with a title page, a page of information on publishing/legal stuff, the copyright, and perhaps a dedication page which means little to the reader. Anticipated books sometimes co...

Book Description

I’m a migrating soul from Digital Expressions (DE) where I spent the past 16 years writing (complaining) about life, and keeping up with a select group of journalists like me. Today I feel as though I have been unceremoniously pushed out of my nest, which is ironic since my name there was Skylark.

I had close to 7000 entries, the bulk of which were written in the previous decade. The past few years I have slowed at writing, but maintained continued usage of the site. It will always be a great site, and I have no doubt this one I’ll be, too. Despite our wishes, all good things must come to an end. The site owner is a fantastic person, and I’ve already seen this place has a person who cares deeply for the journaling patrons of Prosebox. It has made transition a lot more comfortable.

As I journeyed over here, I realized a few things. My hesitation to join began with not wanting to carry too much baggage. Gone is the Skylark moniker, inspired by my first car and citizen band radio handle. Gone is the last 16 years, because this is a new beginning. As the sites try to determine a way to bring old journals over, I begin this one with a clear perspective.

I have much to learn about the new place. It won’t take long before the nails that hold it together become familiar points to stare at while in deep thought…
