There are some places a litmus test is required in Deplorable thoughts

Saw my doctor this week.
I like her, a lot.
There was a possibility, though, that I was going to have to end our comfortable relationship of several years.
It all depended on her answer to one question and, before asking, I told her so.

She looked at me with a scrunched up brow. “Doc, I hate to ask, but as a woman of science
and the person upon whose judgment I am relying
to help me actually stay alive, I have to know -
What is your view of alternative facts?”
(I actually wasn’t joking.)

Her face micro-phased through expressions of surprise,
then relief,
then exasperation.

“Oh My God!” she exclaimed.
“How the hell did we come to this?…”
And she proceeded to animatedly express her outrage at the concept
and the people who proposed and support it.

It was my turn to sigh in relief.
I don’t care who she votes or voted for.
My doctor believes that facts are facts.
I can continue taking her advice.

Yes. It could have been quite awkward if she hadn't agreed that the concept of "alternative facts" is an unacceptable notion. I would have felt bad for a few minutes about having been quite rude by asking an uncomfortable question, but...
I am absolutely serious. If she had expressed acceptance of "alternative facts" that would have been our last visit. Anyone who can twist his or her mind around the concept that, unlike opinions, facts are a matter of personal choice, well, I can't take that sort of person's analytical skills seriously and most definitely cannot use that person's judgment in steering my medical decisions.
