My son is moving out today. It’s not the first time. He left a few years back but had to come home when his landlord sold the house and he couldn’t find anywhere else. He stayed here and saved e...

I’m not writing entries here nearly as much as I would like to. It’s partly that my concentration is often really bad from withdrawing from the tranquilizers I’m finding writing more difficult. O...

It's over a month since I wrote an entry! Coming off the tranquilizers is going reasonably well. The doctor has given me a liquid equivalent so that it is easier to reduce by a small amount. I s...

One of my hobbies is genealogy. I really enjoy finding out about my ancestors, the way they lived and the places they lived in. I've always had this interest, but progress was slow until the Inte...

Just as life was going well and I was starting to really enjoy the summer my doctor has made a decision which is really hard. I've been on tranquilizers since a few months after I got married. At...

On Tuesday Hubby and I enjoyed a fantastic evening at a local folk club. It’s held at a pub in Longtown, a village a few miles from here. I used to love going to folk clubs in the 60s and 70s but...

A week last Monday Hubby and I went to Cardiff, first to visit our daughter and in the evening to a concert by The Seekers. The Seekers were my favourite group in the 60s and I have loved and per...

Ada's gift

I have just been watching an interview on This Morning with a woman who took in her best friend's 2 boys after the friend was killed in an accident and her husband died of cancer. It was a very t...

Easter Sunday

That was a very nice family Easter Sunday. We couldn’t go out for a drive because it rained so we spent the day watching a little TV, doing a few odd jobs and, of course eating some chocolate! I ...

This and that

It looks as if I caught a bug of some kind over the weekend when we were away. I don't think it's a cold as I don't have a runny nose but I feel shivery and achy and have a bit of a cough. Perhap...

We had a lovely weekend. On Saturday we went to the spring meeting of our John Denver club. It is always lovely to meet old friends and make new ones, have a good singalong and raise some money f...

Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day, or Mothering Sunday to give it it's original title. My daughter sent me some special sweets, orange creams mmmm! my eldest son has just given me an orchid, he gives me one ...

Seventeen years ago this evening, March 18 1997, I went to my last John Denver concert. I went with my husband and 9 year old son. Nowadays our son insists that we dragged him there kicking and s...

Sunset and flowers

There was a beautiful sunset this evening, the best so far this year. It wrapped right around the sky. I took this photo facing almost north. On evenings like this I am so thankful that I live h...

The weather has been really spring like lately and I'm loving it. The daffodils are out in the garden and I can sit on the patio with my coffee again and listen to the birds singing. Two weeks a...

What's in a name?

Someone just rang up and asked for David. I told them they must have the wrong number. They said I want David A........ and I realised they actually did want my husband. His name is David John bu...

Money and primroses

Isn't it awful the way we can sometimes focus on people's negative qualities and forget to see their good points. I was talking to a friend who had just had a row with her rather anal husband abo...

The Passport Chronicles

We are planning a visit to The Netherlands in April and I am beginning to wonder if someone up there doesn’t want us to go. To visit Amsterdam has been a dream of mine for several years now. I wa...

Doing what you can

I love this story, it reminds me of something I read that Mother Teresa said - 'If you can't feed 100 people then feed one.' Making a difference is all about doing what you can. Sometimes I g...

Time in my garden at last

After all of the storms and the rain it has been lovely to enjoy 2 fine sunny days. At last I have been able to spend some hours in the garden. I planted the last of the pansies in tubs, did a ge...

The storms continue

And so it goes on; the wind is raging, rain is falling; there is water coming under the kitchen door and the roof is leaking in the bedroom. But we are getting off lightly compared to others. Th...

Memories, floods and moving on

I've just been watching a TV programme about Torville and Dean winning the gold medal for ice dancing at the Sarajevo Olympics. This Valentine's Day will be the 30th anniversary. I vividly rememb...

Weather!

This weather is unbelievable. This morning I woke to sunshine, it was cold but settled and I was planning to plant my winter window boxes. I've been trying to get them done since November, the po...

The First Snowdrop

There is a snowdrop outside my kitchen window. There's only one and it's still a bud, but the sight of it sitting there saying, Life goes on and Spring isn't too far away, warms my heart on this ...

My Little Box

My first entry here. I heard 3 days ago that Pete Seeger had died. I am a fugitive from Open Diary and I went there to write about this, found O D was closing and here I am. I loved Pete Seeger...

Book Description

I live in a terraced cottage on a hillside in South Herefordshire, UK. We are just in England but from our windows we have a view of the Black Mountains which are in Wales. I live with my husband, 2 grown up sons and 4 cats, we also have a daughter who lives with her boyfriend in South Wales.

I don’t have good health but I do voluntary work on a crisis helpline. I love writing. I write poetry and have written a book about my childhood growing up in a pub in Shrewsbury which I am hoping to get published.

I love music. I sing and play guitar and enjoy entertaining, though I don’t get to do that so much as before my health got bad. My other interests are psychology, the environment, history, gardening, genealogy and travel.

Because of my health I am home a lot and this is my view from the terrace..
