Sunshine is everything in Self-Improvement, 2018

Does anyone else’s hope meter rise a few notches with the sight of sunshine? Spring is coming. I can feel it.

I did two things yesterday that I’ve been meaning to do since we moved here in 2012. I bought a Discover Pass (annual season pass to the state’s parks) and signed up for a library card at the local library (which is for a regional area, not just a single library).

My goal this summer is to visit as many state parks as possible. Now I have no excuse not to go. I’m excited about all the trails to be hiked.

I got the library card because A) free books/entertainment and B) when I do get more serious about maybe looking for a different job, I probably shouldn’t do all that while I’m at work at my current job, ya know?

It took 6 years of laziness and unmotivation on my part to get those two things accomplished.

Sidebar: I think most people order their season passes online. The first sporting goods store I went into last night, the girl gave me a blank stare when I asked her if I could buy a pass. Then she said their printer was broken. So I went to the other sporting goods store nearby and asked if they sold the passes. The guy (super nice) said “We do. I’m just not sure how.” So I watched him walk himself through the steps while trying to make light conversation without trying to distract him. Yay for socialization! I mean I talked to TWO strangers in order to complete a task I could have done online. Bravo to self! Actually, I just wanted to be able to have it for this weekend, because I want to start exploring now. Provided I don’t get maimed at football practice.

Trying to do everything in my power to keep my thoughts out of the seductive, negative, dark hole.
