My house and Sassy in These titles mean nothing.

Does anyone remember Sassy Brujur - that might have been her name, it might not have been. She was a great Open Diary-er, an Englishwoman living in Spain. She had a guest house and she was always working on it. She posted lots of photos. She had a couple of little dogs. She would make paella. She loved Spain. I think she had been a hairdresser on cruise ships.

When I would post photos of my house she would always think I should be fixing it. She thought it was a shame I was letting so much ‘potential’ go down the drain. I thought of her today as I was sweeping the cellar. The cellar is finally dry - without its Amish eave spouts. I’ve been doing some of my walking cl thinking of ways to make it better. I want a bicycle horn to nail to the center post in the furnace room that I use as a roundhouse. I want to Toot, Toot as I round the post, once on my way behind the furnace and once on my way back out. I want to get rid of the left over ducting and pipes from my husband’s original furnace installation, so there will be more room in both the furnace room and the laundry room. I swept up a couple of dustpans of minor floor bound detritus. I showed the stuff to Jim who hadn’t believed it was there. See Sassy?

My walking route through the house is a favorite thing of mine. I want to get the 18 plain top milk bottle caps identified as stops on the Milwaukee Road railroad - so I can travel by rail to wherever the railroad used to go. That was a suggestion of Jim’s but we’ve never done it. So was the bicycle horn for that matter. Both might be projects for when the grandkids are here - although they are a bit too old for that kind of fantasy. Though again, they are not as old as I am.

Since I’ve reported here I’ve gotten rid of the sofa and Gracie’s chair. Away son and here son took them out to the burn pile and I ignited them. I may have told you that already? Either way, nice flames but I didn’t burn anything down that I didn’t want to burn. My yoga mat went with them. I thought about that for quite a while - it had spent a couple years on the deck folded up and I didn’t think it would ever flatten out without being wrinkled and I didn’t think wrinkles would be comfortable. Burning it might have been a mistake.

I got my plants inside a couple days ago. I brought in the round metal mesh table and put it where the sofa had been and I arranged, etc. my plants. I repotted a few that needed it. I’m uncertain which plants I’ll send up to Joana’s. She has better light than I do and just as good heat. Jim waters them and puts a bit of farmer’s pride and care into them. My oldest best begonia is almost dead. It’s been in the same metal pail for decades and I suppose root-boundedness has finally overcome its vitality. I have some smaller cuttings and plants so it’s not like it will be gone forever - and perhaps a winter at Joana’s will bring it back.

I have a fluorescent light I’d like installed above the plants table or somewhere perhaps in the laundry room. There is a nice ledge down there that would hold plants too. And they would like a better light. Also there is some though of spending people time in the basement but that would probably be in the furnace room. Toot, toot.

I haven’t made my way upstairs yet.

My living room has more room since I moved the four new but not installed windows into my bedroom which not has less room for the same reason. I use the windows to store my clothes. That makes no sense. Maybe I’ll have Jim take a picture.

Poor Sassy. She might be happy that I’m doing/thinking of doing things, but she’d think I’ve got a long ways to go.

Never heard of her in my days at OD. I just left OD. Autocratic bs. Yes, home reno is always ongoing.

Lady of the Bann September 29, 2022

I dont know her either.

Beret September 29, 2022

That name sounds sort of familiar from OD days but I must not have followed her. I absolutely love the idea of the bicycle horn!

Congratulations on making space and getting your plants in. I vaguely remember her. I wasn't a regular.

I did follow her and I loved her stories about her house there and the village it was in , in Spain. She was very good at describing it. I think she had a daughter she wrote about quite often too . I miss a lot of people from OD.

We just bought a 100 year old house in Clinton, the little town I went to the last two years of HS in . It’s an utter wreck so will need a ton of renovation before we can move there ; mostly the complete remodel of two bathrooms , the renovation of an upstairs apartment my brother is going to live in, and turning the front porch into a sunroom for my plants. It’s a Sears bungalow but bad owners abused it terribly. It can be charming but it needs a lot of work :-( We won’t move in for quite awhile . :-( . Home renovations . Ugh !

I remember Sassy. She used to work on the cruise ships before she retired to Spain, which she loved. She posted wonderful pictures of her country walks.

I miss her. I'd like to know what happened to her, what she's doing.
The internet brings us together and then sometimes we just disappear.

Yes. It's happened several times but perhaps that's the way it should be. Energy is constantly moving. She was funny!

You must post a photo of your plants in the new spot in that room. Will you call it something other than living room when the sofa is gone?

Serin October 11, 2022

Does Gracie have any opinions about you torching her chair?

woman in the moon Serin ⋅ October 11, 2022

We waited for her not to be able to get in it anymore - last year or so. And now there's more room. We are discussing a dog bed for her right now. She seems non-committal.
