Fed up in The View from the Terrace

I am totally fed up. The tooth that has been harassing me for over a year started playing up again at the end of last week. I rang the specialist on Friday. That was a marathon in itself, 6 phone calls before I was able to get through to them at 4.15, fifteen minutes before closing time. The receptionist managed to catch the dentist I had seen just as he was leaving and came back with a message to tell me it wasn’t a good sign but to go back to my own dentist and try a course of antibiotics! I told her of my problems with antibiotics and she said to talk it over with my dentist but the only alternative, if the tooth doesn’t settle, was extraction. I paid them £320 for treatment and it lasted just over 2 weeks. I’m not blaming them, I knew it may not work but I didn’t expect it to go wrong this quickly. I have an appointment with my own dentist this afternoon. I don’t know whether to try antibiotics and risk them making me ill or to have it out now. A part of me feels I should try everything after spending all of that money, but another part is worried I might be made ill again. I didn’t take the last course of antibiotics she gave me. Well I took one and woke up in the middle of the night feeling breathless. I was going to try one more to be sure it was the tablets but the tooth had settled a bit in the morning and I only had 3 days till the appointment with the specialist so I left it. If I tell my dentist this she will probably suggest I try them now but I’ve been reading about the side effects on the internet and they are only recommended as a last resort in a patient over 60 especially if they have arthritis and I do have the early stages of that. Apparently they can cause tendon damage. So I am thinking do I want to risk causing another health problem just to save a tooth.I’m really fed up with health problems. It’s been one thing after another for 2 years.

On top of all of this Hubby has a heavy cold. He gets them a lot and I do feel for him but he does make an awful fuss. Unfortunately he is going to have to drive me to the dentist as I have taken a migraine pill and can’t drive after that.

On a happier note we had a lovely evening at our local theatre on Friday evening in spite of my tooth and Hubby’s cold. We went to see Lee Mead, a favourite singer of mine. We saw him last year in Malvern and I was delighted to find he was coming to Hereford. We have booked to see a local youth theatre do West Side Story on Thursday so I hope to be well enough to enjoy that.

Chris called yesterday and said there were people in Hereford demonstrating against Brexit. It was the third anniversary of the referendum. If I had known and had been feeling well enough I might have joined them!

The weather continues to be alternatively cloudy and damp or pouring with rain. Saturday was the exception, a glorious sunny day but I had booked a duty at my voluntary job for the afternoon so couldn’t get outside. The weather forecast now says it is going to get much hotter, which will be nice but as the heat sometimes also triggers my breathing problems perhaps I should decide against the antibiotics. I just want this tooth situation resolved one way or another so that I can enjoy the summer.

I'm sorry you're having so many problems with that tooth. At this point, I'd be saying to just pull it. I hope you get it resolved soon.

Yep I think I would have it out now too unless it's somewhere very visible - it's being far too much of a pain and costing you a fortune! I know what you mean about one thing after another healthwise - it gets very wearing doesn't it!

After you floss and brush ; brush again with hydrogen peroxide . Let it sit in your mouth for a couple minutes then rinse . This helps prevent infection and decreases inflammation. It also dissolves plaque .
