Toxic Masculinity and the Girls that love it in Musings

One of my biggest pet peeves about being a hairstylist is, I do not like women who sit in my chair and have no fucking clue what they want to do with their hair… and say to me “do whatever you want, I trust you!” Like BITCH I just met you today and you want me to fuck around with your image? What do you do for work? Is it corporate or a start up? What is your budget? What are your maintenance routines? What is your personality? Because if you sit in my chair and don’t know a lick about me, and expect me to decide what you are going to wear everyday when I just met you 10 minutes ago…based on your friends recommendations and based on your first glance at me… being thin, Latino, attractive wearing a Hermès belt, dressed in pristine black in a Commes de garçon duster…

Like girl… I don’t know you, don’t rely on my pretty and assume that because I’m attractive I can magically calculate your appearance… I don’t fucking know what you want and at $450 partial highlights to a $1500 transformation color service… you shouldn’t sit in my chair and think that I’m a magician and can tell you what to do…I am not in the business to dictate to women how they should look…I am an image consultant, not an image manager. Even my cheapest service at $450 a pop—I don’t have time to tell you what to do with your hair and my time is expensive. Show me images, talk to me, tell me a synopsis of who you are, what your life entails…

Cause if you just plop down on my chair and tell me to just do what I want… I’m not the hairstylist for you…and if you truly want my aesthetic—just ‘cause I dress funky and pretentiously doesn’t mean that I’m a mind reader.

From Lucy Liu—Jessica Alba ----J-Lo all olive complexion all very different personalities and Lucy Liu looks terrible as a blonde, meanwhile Jessica Alba in Sin City was a stunning angelic blonde and Jennifer Lopez is a very classic blonde, with a little bit of grit, it’s funkier.

Hair color isn’t just only hair color… it’s an attitude. If you’re a very quiet and meek type of woman and have a very loud type of color… it’s only going to highlight your weaknesses and insecurities. I am 199% capable of achieving your vision, but I need to have a vision to see what my recommendations are based on skin color, placement based on your personality, head shape and attitude. My expertise and skill isn’t what’s at fault, I don’t want you in my seat trying to make me work outside my pay grade… I’m not gonna tell you what to do… I can suggest tweaks, tones, I will go into detail about the process, the technique, expense within the restrictions of the time I am allotted..

I don’t just do hair… I transform women to create and guide her to achieving her best self.
