You guys, I made back the $25 registration/ background check fee with Wag this weekend on dog walks. I had walks Fri, Sat and Sun. One walk each day, 3 total. I could have had two more but I saw the notifications too late and someone nabbed em before I could get them.
Friday: As mentioned before, Friday’s walk was accidentally accepted by myself when I thought it was a Saturday walk. So I decided to take a lunch from work and walk them during that “lunch hour”. Y’all it was two seven month old pure bred Dobermans. The owner said they were in training but that…that was an intense 30 minute workout. She said she was looking for someone to walk them once weekly. I told her I would keep an eye out for a walk notification from Wag for them in the future. She gave me a good tip and a good rating. I don’t actually know if I will or not. I assume they will only get more bigger and powerful as they get older. Especially if they are only getting walked once weekly.
Saturday: Saturday’s walk was at noon for a small well behaved EASY dog. Also 30 minutes. Owner seemed cool. Walk was easy money, owner said he’d add me to his list of preferred walkers. Spent the rest of the day rollerblading and walking my own dog. The weather has been super sunny all weekend (but chilly!!!) I get so much extra energy and zest for life when the sun is out.
Sunday (today): Started the day out REALLY testing my positive mental state practice. I hit my car’s side mirror on the car port backing out of my parking space this morning. The covering and mirror both popped off. But the actual connector that holds it to the car remained intact. The cover was cracked, but the mirror was not. Went to Walmart and bought this silicone adhesive stuff and glued the crack back together and glued the cover and mirror back on. The glue job is a little messy, but it’s back together and you wouldn’t notice from the backside.
Anyway, that happened as I was getting ready to walk my dog at his favorite park, one we haven’t ventured to in a little while. So I told myself that the damage could be much, much worse. The mirror could literally be dangling by the hinge, but the hinge wasn’t damage. The silicone adhesive seems to be doing the job for now. It probably won’t be too expensive of a part to replace down the road. And then we put it in the past and enjoyed our walk! We spent 3 hours wandering around and enjoying the park/weather! (Also why it kind of blows my mind that people are willing to pay complete strangers money to walk their dogs for 30 min increments! Unless of course the owner is disabled.) I realize 3 hours could also be seen as “excessive”, but whatevs. :)
I was feeling kind of bummed that i hadn’t gotten any requests for nearby walks today until I did! Two dogs again, a husky and a lab mix. I think my only gripe I have with Wag so far is that you don’t know whether or not the owner is going to be home until AFTER you accept the walk request and read the “Walker’s Notes”. Wag gives clients free lock boxes so that they don’t have to be home when their dogs get walked. I personally prefer them to be home. I don’t like the feeling of going into someone’s space while they aren’t there. I 100% assume I’m being watched on camera though. And one of the biggest reasons I am devoting some of my free time to doing this is to get to know others in the area and form connections. The forced social interactions are what I’m trying to initiate on my weekends. When I read in the notes that the owner wasn’t going to be home, it was kind of a downer. But I did it, both dogs were easy walkers and I didn’t lose their house key! (Also a huge anxiety trigger when the owner isn’t home!)
So I guess I’m learning as I go. I am proud of myself for booking three walks so far. I am also learning how much money I’ve saved by walking my own dog! And I can’t imagine ever feeling okay with letting a stranger into my apartment to walk my dog. I need some of their trust levels to rub off on me because I just don’t have that.
I also finished reading Awaken The Giant Within and will write my review on it tomorrow! Great book. I think it’s one I should probably reread at least once a year. It’s long and a “giant” of a book, but soooo worth it! Anyhow, that was my Friday and weekend. I know I mentioned the possibility of going skiing this weekend, but when I checked their app on a Saturday, it was like 18 degrees at the base of the mountain. Going skiing on my birthday in April will be a better timeframe lol.
