Two days ago, when parts of the west country had been underwater for six weeks, Cameron was saying “The Environment Agency is dealing with this and I have faith in them”
No sense of any urgency, no sense of it being a very bad thing - he was just letting people deal with it.
Today, when Tory heartland is underwater, it is now a NATIONAL EMERGENCY and we have to make a NATIONAL EFFORT to help.
For the last four years he has been telling us WE MUST CUT SPENDING - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
Today, when Tory heartland is underwater, MONEY IS NO OBJECT IN THIS RELIEF EFFORT - WE MUST SPEND WHATEVER WE NEED!
For the last six weeks the government has been slammed again and again for its failure to do anything to help the people of Somerset, and Cameron has said nothing except for repeating his statement that The Environment Agency are good people.
Today, when Tory heartland is underwater and we have Tory heartland voters complaining about the government, NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DEALING WITH THESE FLOODS.
Does he think people won’t notice? Does he think we are all stupid?
If this was a few towns along the Clyde, it would not be A NATIONAL EMERGENCY requiring a NATIONAL EFFORT.
If villages along the Tyne had been underwater for two days, he would not be saying MONEY IS NO OBJECT.
Some houses in Somerset have been underwater or cut off for the better part of two months, and yet all it takes is ONE DAY in the Home Counties, and Cameron is there in a shot.
Does he really not understand just what this looks like? Or does he just not care?
