Last Night in Self-Improvement, 2018

So as stated in my last entry, last night I went to house to have the hubby sign the final divorce papers and it was my first time seeing him & being back at the house since I left (Feb 17th). My stomach was in knots both before and after. I admit to driving past the house once before actually stopping there.

He knew I was coming, I wasn’t about to show up unannounced. We’d agreed to the day and time, so there would be no surprises. He seemed to be in good spirits and his physical appearance hadn’t changed too much. The house smelled of cleaning chemicals, so I could tell he had cleaned for the occasion. The yard looked well-kept. Nothing too shocking about his appearance or the house’s.

His dog is a VERY energetic and FULL of love yellow lab puppy. There is no “slow” with that dog. I think she’s less than a year old. She’s probably the perfect fit for him in the sense that she would happily spend her entire day giving any human kisses and ear washes via dog tongue and he could probably use all that love. She seems to be well-taken care of.

The cats....that was a little disheartening. Not going to lie. They have quarantined themselves to the computer room. there is a baby gate so the dog can’t go in there, but if the cats want to, they have the option to come out. The female does every once in a while he said, but Thor has no interest in ever leaving that room. I found him in his hiding spot. When he saw me, he hissed at me. I left him alone. Not the way I’d like him to live the rest of his life, but hubby insists on keeping him.

Plus my main objective last night was to get him to sign the papers, so I wasn’t about to challenge the cat situation. He signed them without a fight. I’m not sure he even knew what he was signing. He said “Is this the same thing as last time?” (referring to the petition he was served with after I filed). I said “pretty much”. He said “What so did you fill out the wrong form before?” and I was like “No the other form was to initiate the divorce and these are the final papers stating that nothing had changed.” and he was like “oh”. I told him the hearing date in the event he wants to come, but told him I was the only one who was required to be there, so it was up to him if he wanted to come. He merely said “oh”, and then I made the brief small talk you make when you’re about to leave someone’s house and I left.

Mission: successful.
