Birds in Diary

Surprisingly, not a lot has changed since I wrote my last entry. I’m still working at the same company (Comcast), still obsessing over my birds all the time, and still making questionable decisions. I haven’t been getting drunk for several months, now, although I might change that at some point because I’m a little bored with life at times. That’s probably the biggest change.
I’m more and more in love with my girl bird every day. Lucky is the nicest, most even-tempered bird. I didn’t know it was possible to have such a chill African grey. I’m more used to them being neurotic and super-needy like my wild bird, Grey. Lately I’ve been working on teaching Lucky to fly. We are still working on it. Several times a day I will tell her to hold on, and then I’ll run around the house while she flaps her wings like crazy pretending to fly. Once she builds up her stamina a little more I’ll try to start teaching her to fly short distances.
For months I was scared of being bitten by Lucky. Nowadays I put my fingers by her beak all the time. It’s like saying hello. She gently puts her beak around my finger, and I’ll take her beak and rub it a little bit, or just let her feel my finger. I love that so much. I can’t get enough of her.
During the work week I still feel terrible about leaving my birds in their cages all day. Not Grey, so much, because he’s a wild bird and he has a huge cage and he is able to entertain himself if he gets bored. I do worry about Lucky, though. Her cage is smaller (but big enough for her) and I never see her chew up any toys or play with anything while I’m gone. I have a camera set up on the birds, so I check on them 3 times a day. Both birds have a box they can go in and chew up paper or sleep or whatever. Grey is more into the nesting behavior than Lucky. I only ever see her sleeping or looking out the windows.
The birds go to bed between 11 and midnight and wake up by 8:30am, so they get 2 hours with me in the morning before I leave for work and another 3 when I get home. That’s about it, though. I’m an inexperienced bird owner, so I don’t know if that’s enough time for them out of their cages or not. They seem happy. I don’t know.
Anyway. This is a weird entry, but that’s how it goes after so many months of not writing. I intend to start writing here regularly again… If anyone still reads, thank you.

Not weird at all! Nice to hear how you're doing as a trio :)
