“It was awful. Her skin was yellow and she had this wig on and the priest or minister or whatever kept talking about souls and wages of sin and everyone stood in line like the casket had hotdogs.”
“Everyone has a wig.”
“No, that can’t be right, when you die you grow a wig? No.”
“The funeral directors do that, they try to make the corpse look pretty so it doesn’t … disturb impressionable young girls.”
“Well, they shouldn’t. This impressionable young girl was disturbed by the wig. Maybe they shouldn’t display the dead like a new big screen TV if they don’t want to disturb, or put a squeaky red nose on the corpse.”
“Honey …”
“Joey says some people just want to be burned. I mean when they die, they want their corpse burned.”
“Yes, honey …”
“That’s what I want. I don’t want a wig.”
“Honey …”
“I don’t want a wig!”
I was looking for a different version of this song. I didn’t even know Ramblin’ Jack did it. I like Ramblin Jack. He traveled with Woody, late in life, Woody’s life that is. I think it was written by Blind Willy Johnson back in the twenties, at least that’s the earliest version I ever heard, it’s gutsy but the recording is distracting. The cleanest and fullest version is Bruce Cockburn.
What Ramblin’ Jack lacks that Blind Willy Johnson, Bruce Cockburn and Woody Guthrie all have, is a name with a phallic nickname in it. Willy Johnson Woody Cockburn plays tight end for the Trojans. Heh.
Here’s Bruce Cockburn doing something else
I might have posted that song before, it’s ok, you didn’t listen the first time. It’ll grow on you. With all the nationalist chest puffing in the GOP primaries this song is almost relevant. It’s catchy whether relevant or not. I don’t have enough vitriol to comment on American politics at the moment; nowhere near as much as the potential candidates do.
I received a bunch of emails dying to show me the guy punching the other guy at a trump rally and then trump making every statement possible about it. The only one that disturbed me was the one from CNN. By the time I went to look the page had been removed. That’s a lot more disturbing than the incident. The incident? That’s what is making people question the trump candidacy? Sweet Water boarding Christ.
So, yeah, you know, go on back to what you were doing, or, if you want suggestions, see what the fuck is up with CNN.
