white noise nocturne in poetry

deep hearts and empty skies
we middle aged are still in
need of lullabies sometimes
the stars are disappearing
to city lights and clouds
seems nothing is left for
us but faces in the crowd
no second chance awaking
no solace in our dreams
the bet is for the taking
which deserves the screams
empty skies and deep hearts
lullabies are needed still
for fitful sleep to start

I love this. The emptiness and somehow whimsy of it.

this makes me think how we had to buy these "blackout blinds" for the windows of this apartment because there is always a light on outside that made it hard for anybody to get real sleep. the world is a lot like that.
