mechanisms coping in poetry

Never do something five times when
you could do it once when it’s
piled up enough to be worth doing.
Work for work’s sake proves nothing.
All great ideas came from the ability
to goof off and think big thoughts.
Society wants to overwork you so
you won’t think up great changes.
Goof off whenever you can you go-getter.
it’s the only way to make things better.
Sometimes focus will actually fuck us.
Sometimes you gotta be forgetful
to keep moving forward in hope.
Sometimes you gotta be scatterbrained
to block out all the things to fear.
Sometimes the only way to get anything done
is ignore worldly-caution and just have fun.

Don’t shovel too often in a storm.
There’s so much more coming and
any given inch and a half or so
really is not worth the effort.
You’ll shovel six inches almost
as fast as you’d scrape for no reason.
The world needs you to stay
in your cozy slippers for a while
to putter around and
consider things more important than
how soon untrod stairs need be scraped
just to impress neighbors who
do not give one tenth of a tiddlyshit.
You might even save the world
along the way on accident.
Don’t let anxiety give you make-work.
What will happen will happen will happen
if you calm the fuck down and let it.
