When you spend as much time reading small pieces of others lives as posted here one quickly realizes love and relationships are defining measures of many ones happiness.
There is talk of happiness, disappointment, envy, aspirations and lamentations. In reading others the question heavy on my mind is what is the measure of love. Certainly it is not as simple as pondering the depth of a pool or the distance of a tree seen afar.
When we consider the beloved in our own lives most verbalize some adversity that concerns us. Maybe losing connectivity, bedroom woes, being taken for granted, all themes easily found on these many pages.
We all have adversity in our lives. Whether we are alone or trying to succeed with our partner in life. Life goes on and it is not always going to be smooth waters. When there is adversity I believe the strength of the love shared is measured by the ability to overwhelm, overcome adversity..no matter how devastating it may be.
Love perseveres. It is not the flowers and candy of your valentine. It is the beloved at you side in sickness and strife. Happily there. Wishing for the best but taking the worse as there is no other place they wish to be. That my dear friends I believe to be a true measure of love.

These are some very wise words...Suddenly I pop up behind your right shoulder, slap a pistola into your hands and say, "Wisdom makes me hot and bothered, let's go kill things, let's kill giant spiders, zombies, unicorns, maybe even a puppy". Mister Happy the magical penis floats up behind your left shoulder and while his gold chain glistens in the sunlight he says, "It's okay to admit that this note is going to make you touch yourself".

Was it the gold chain? Was that a bit too much?

Well put, and quite true. I while ago I was at a dinner and a question came up "if you could only have one thing in the world, what would it be?" Some people said love. I said happiness. They often coincide, but there are many people who are happy without love. If you can be happy with yourself, you can be happy with others. If you aren't happy with yourself, it's hard to be happy with others. I suppose in any case, love and happy could be interchangeable.

I like it but I'm reminded of an Abraham Lincoln quote. It goes something like... "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."
