July 3, 2026

It’s Friday. I have the day off for the 4th of July holiday and not a moment too soon! I’ve spent the last two weeks strictly at Santa’s Workshop, buried in boxes and samples and people.

Yesterday was nice and quiet though. It was so quiet that I brought Martini to work with me to work at the workshop. She was good for the most part, though she did bark at a few people and I am hoping she didn’t wear out her welcome. She’s so good 98% of the time and people don’t even know she’s there unless they startle her out of a slumber

For example, Little Paul came into the workroom where we were working and dropped a box down, and Martini jumped and started barking, which in turn scared Little Paul because he didn’t realize she was there (because she was sleeping!).

Anyway, all of that to say, my team loves when she comes in when it’s a quiet day at the workshop. I know I could never bring her to the actual main office because people have sticks up their ass over there.

And even though it’s absolute chaos and bedlam over at the workshop, I think I prefer it over there as most of the time people are just hard at work and not posturing…unless there are executive walks happening. Then people get anxious.

Anyway, day off so I don’t want to write about work.

Today I got up somewhat early for a day off. Martini jumped up on the bed around 5am and I fell back to sleep with her until around 6:30 and went for a walk on the city trail, then home to dink around a bit until it was time to pick up Chloe Car-diashian (my Mini Cooper who’d been knocked out by a pothole!)…finally fixed after all this time!

It’s so nice to check things off of my urgent list.

After I picked up the car, I drove over to a Trader Joes in a ritzy part of town since it was the closest one. Wanted to pick up a few nibbles as [Athena] is coming over tonight to watch some fireworks from the roof of my building. And my neighbor on the 9th floor, Andi, might come over too!

Walking around the store felt strangely good for some reason. I don’t know. I just good vibes for some reason. I had been worried that it would be utter chaos in the store since people would be shopping for their 4th of July parties and I guess I was feeling a little sad as I don’t really have a lot of festivities planned.

After a minute or two of wandering around the cheese area, a woman walked up to me and told me that I look just beautiful. She said I had an air about me.

And I gushed. I told her that it made my day and I appreciated it and to have a wonderful 4th of July.

And after she walked off, I got all teary-eyed. I think it was because I’ve been feeling really invisible lately. I guess I’m feeling older and things feel more complicated than they used to be. And I feel like everyone…EVERYONE around me has a partner to support them in their life.

And don’t get me wrong - I’m so grateful for the people I do have in my life. OMG what would I do without them?

And I’ve moved to this community where there’s always something going on and there are always people around.

But it just hit me.

I’m grateful for that woman who approached me. Another angel of a human, though she has no idea I think so. I guess it goes to show that taking a moment to acknowledge someone goes a goddamn long way.

OK. I’ve been putting off opening these shelving unit boxes for a couple of weeks now. I don’t think I’ll be able to do much before [Athena] comes over tonight to watch the fireworks from my rooftop. They are supposed to be doing a big fireworks show at the fairgrounds after the World Cup game tonight. And there will be some more tomorrow, too, but tonight’s view should be the best from my rooftop.

But I need to see if I can start building these shelves or if I need to hire my guy again.

Did I tell you about that? I hired one of the maintenance guys here at the lofts to put together an armoire? It took him like 6 hours. Poor guy. Long story. Maybe I’ll tell you later.

Anyway, off I go to see what I can do!
