#mindfulness

It's been an exhausting week.

The usual routine of working, looking after and being companion to my Dad.

Whilst also getting him settled in the new contracted carers routine, working out what works, what doesn't, what we need to buy.

And repeatedly talking over why they are coming, where is my brother, and my Dad's fave question.. how much is this costing him.

I thought I'd done well to get as much done as I had. I was handing over with a solid care routine in place, everything clearly labelled, bedding changed, laundry done and even a new device setup so we can finally video call him any time of day.

But he woke with some griping pains, that grew into excruciating pain that had me dialling 999, whilst he said for the 20th time "it'll be fine once it passes!".

He has a hernia, possibly strangulated. Morphine has made him comfortable, thank goodness, he'd been in agony. They are trying to avoid operating so hope to manipulate it back into place from the outside.

I'm now home and my burntout brother has received this situation as his first step back into care after 10 days rest.

I think, as a family, we cannot grumble at the effort we collectively put into making things work.
