I blew off my workout this morning so I could stretch, love on the dog for a minute, and get my head screwed on straight.

Work is going to be a challenge. I know I say that with every job, so I know it’s the business that I’m in - it’s been like this my whole career.

But I’ve stepped into a hornets nest that I didn’t apply for!

Remember, my boss changed my job on Day 1. I got the bait-and-switch. And before you keep telling me that I need to ask for more money - it doesn’t work like that!!

I’m not complaining. I still love this work. It’s not hard, per se. I’m not saving babies. Not even close.

But it’s intense, and there’s literally not enough time in the day, and I am trying to finish someone else’s job while learning my own job.

It’s the finishing up part that I’m having trouble with because I don’t know where things were left off…I don’t know the approvals, I don’t know the status, and I don’t know what people agreed to previously.

But I’m expected to know. And I’m being called out on it! Like, in a nasty way! These bitches are being SUPER bitches. I think it might be because there are jobs on the line and they just want someone to fix it. I get it.

So I’m doing my best, but in the meantime I’m being thrown under the bus for things others either did or didn’t do and I can’t yet make heads or tails of it. All I can do is ask questions and “find out”.

So that’s what I’m doing.

I do want to tell you about the place where I’m working all day today. So, you may or may not know, I’m working for a giant retail store. I’m developing products for them, so I work with designers, factories, vendor offices, merchants, marketing folks, etc. And this retailer has a location where they’ve built an exact replica of a store. It’s inside of a warehouse, and we work to set things up exactly the way you’ll see it in the real store, 6 months to a year before the product is actually set in the store!

So there’s the store part, and there are the workrooms and warehouse shelves and the photography studio (where they shoot all of the products) and the millions and millions of samples and boxes coming in every day, and then there’s a room with a bunch of computer monitors set up called the product development room…

Honestly, the easiest way to describe it to you is a cross between a War Room and Santa’s Workshop. I’m not even kidding! It’s fascinating and grueling at the same time.

Anyway, I’m headed out in a few minutes to drive my butt to Santa’s Workshop at the Glitter Factory where I’ll take it on the chin again and again today.

Honestly, can you imagine people actually being MEAN while working with fun stuff and glitz and glitter and pretty products all day? Well, they can be!!

Just mentally prepping myself.

Talk to ya soon!

xox,
GS

P.S. Oh, have been so stressed about today that I forgot to tell you - had a good oncology visit yesterday! But the good stuff felt short lived…

P. P. S. The reason why I keep writing “R3” in my titles (meaning “Relationship at a Level 3”) is that I’m trying to figure out how to relate to some of these people at work! I will soon have a cast of characters to write about! Soon.
