“Your Life as an Orca” - James Toland

He has an entire series on this. The first one I watched was “Your Life as a King Cobra,” which was both funny and informative.

“This Is the Chemical Disaster to Worry About” - Veritasium

How did ritonavir, one of the first drugs to successfully treat HIV/AIDS, end up getting contaminated with… Itself? Featuring chocolate to explain chemical polymorphism.

“Able Archer 1983: The Brink of Apocalypse”

I’m sharing this for two reasons: One, yes, this actually happened, the same year the movie WarGames -whose plot involves NATO receiving false information of incoming missiles from the USSR, which in reality was caused by a very young Matthew Broderick hacking into its operating system to play a game called “Global Thermonuclear War” and nearly causing said war- was released. Two, the soundtrack is pure fucking fire. It opens with “Blue Monday” by New Order, and features (not in order) “Mad World” by Tears for Fears, “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat, “99 Red Balloons” by Nena, and “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)” by Eurythmics. I have no idea how a BBC documentary was able to license these songs (unless it’s easier to do it over there; in the US, licensing songs for a documentary that isn’t purely about that band or song would be prohibitively expensive), but it’s amazing.

“The 1800s Song You’ve DEFINITELY Heard” - The Cowardly Valiant

First: Yes, the audio is bad. It’s not narrated by AI; the creator is autistic, and one of their symptoms is atypical vocal effect. Also, I think the mic they’re using is just not very good. But apart from that, this video is well done, and it’s a much more in-depth look into the Arabian riff than anything else on YouTube.

“Your Idol” Lyric Video (from KPop Demon Hunters)

This is my favorite song from the movie. And it’s hands-down the best villain song in an animated movie this decade. //nostalgia for the days when Disney had “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Gaston” and “Hellfire”//
