Makes you wonder in The Kid Used To Dream

Today, I was having a meal and overheard what sounded like a pretty heated discussion from a couple at the other table. They looked to be in their late 40s or early 50s. He was sitting there quite while she was raking him over getting one of their vehicles fixed. He obviously got tired of the 3rd degree and pushed back to tell her that the garage where he was told to take it - the guy was on vacation until this week and that he’d planned to take the car but other things piled in on him. She didn’t let up on him. She began to tell him that he’ll never get it done. He’ll let it slip until the warranty is gone and there it’ll be - a yard ornament. He was trying to stand his ground without causing a scene and obviously trying to make her mad so she’d stop talking - he agreed with her that he just might let it sit there. Well, that didn’t work. She double down on him and went into another 5 min lecture on how she knew she’d made him mad and had it not been for her nagging nothing would ever get accomplished.

I was trying not to watch but glanced his way long enough to catch his eye. He was defeated. He just remained quiet and pushed his plate away. I may have watched the soul of a man exit his body. When he conceded that she was right it still didn’t make her happy. As a matter of fact, it seemed like it pissed her off all the more.

I don’t want to experience this but I’m sure it’s inevitable when 2 people have a personality clash. A person is probably just as well off to remain alone. I mean - this guy was with this person for some reason. There had to be a spark at some point in their life for them to be together. He’s sitting there with someone he obviously loved but was deflated.

Living alone would be way better than living with someone constantly ruining your meal with criticism. I’m not saying everyone is this way - but the way my luck goes - it would sure as shine would be my destiny.
