I know saying this out loud is like putting some kind of cosmic spot light on me, but everyone in my family, except for me, has been to the emergency room/vet this year and holy fuck that can stop right now. Valentino in the spring with his bout of gastro (which he had a flare up a few weeks ago). M with his kidney stone trip to emerg, and subsequent surgery. And this morning I woke up to M saying, “Oh no, no baby boy” over and over to the point where I thought Cosmos was dead. I bolted out of bed, ran downstairs to find Cosmos very much alive, but moving with considerable unsteadiness in his back end.
Yesterday he was doing his death defying trick of walking along the edge of the stairwell (like, on the open side of the balusters), except this time he fell. M watched it happen (could do nothing to stop it). He fell about 7’ before hitting the stairs, and then tumbling down the stairs themselves. I checked on him, he was shaken but still moving around normally, I petted him a bit to see if there were any tender spots but he’s stubbornly stoic and didn’t make a peep.
This morning both M and I were terrified the injury was going to be either neurological or spinal.

We were at the emergency vet by 7am this morning. They did a bunch of physical tests, palpating, moving his limbs around, and he didn’t make a sound. The vet said it’s very likely that it’s something benign like a bruised ligament or something to that effect. They sent us home with an anti inflammatory and gabapentin.
He’s been sleeping most of the day, high as a kite. But he’s moving much better this evening. A little unsteady in the back end, but nothing like the stumbling and falling over he was doing this morning. Hopefully he’ll be just fine in a few days.

It’s been 4 months, but I think I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that I work where I work. Everyone tells me what a good job it is. And for sure there are a ton of perks. Recently someone said how chill it is to work in the building considering the bigwigs that also work there, and I think I was finally ready to hear that.

I’m working with my ADHD coach to find a way through my fear of getting in trouble. It has been a guiding principle since I was a child, thanks to the way I was raised. Every little thing might have made mom mad, and might have ended up with me getting punished for something. I’m intentionally vague because it always mystified me what I could get in trouble for. Doing something, not doing something, doing something wrong, not doing something right… constant vigilance was required, and clearly my brain thinks it still is.

In happier news, M and I went to the local comic convention, and we went dressed up! He went as a Scout Trooper and I went as a creation of my own, a Sith Lord named Malin Amaranth. The weather was terrible, but we made it through the wind and rain, and had a really really good time. M got asked for a couple pictures, and someone even commented on my costume (I’m not surprised I got less attention because no one knows what fandom unique characters might be from, though the Scout Trooper beside me and the lightsaber on my belt should have been a good indication). We got some pictures done together, freebs from a photo booth put on by sponsors, though I think next year I’ll pay the professional who was doing basically glamour shots of people in costume. The images were really impressive.
After we wandered around the whole space in costume, we walked back to the car and got back into our normal clothes and headed back for a more relaxed adventure. I bought this skirt with little Star Trek Starships on it. M bought Deadpool oven mits. M bought a mug that says “elixir of maximum effort”, I bought two prints of Horizon Zero Dawn art, and M bought a foil print of Shadow of the Colossus art. Both of mine are odd sizes and will require custom framing and I kind of hate the person who makes a piece of art 12”x24”. It looks amazing though, it’s a huge Tallneck covered in vines and plants, and Aloy standing on top. The other is a profile of Aloy with some artsy nods to the game.
I was a little disappointed. I said to M “If anyone has anything of the cat-dragon (Rot God) from Kena Bridge of Spirits I’m buying the shit out of it. Alas, there was nothing.

This mornings emergency aside it wasn’t an entirely terrible weekend. Yesterday was great. Today we relaxed, keeping an eagle eye on the sleeping kitten, we watched the F1 Sprint Race (I am so sad for Piastri), and then we watched Return of the Jedi, which is always a hit. It’s probably my favourite of the original three.

Well it’s bedtime. Work tomorrow. Then Remembrance Day. I wonder how this one will go…
