I had dinner at a Mexican restaurant tonight with someone and I was telling our server, who was from Guatemala, about eating tacos when I was 13 years old.
I was part of a band …the youngest…and the drummer/Vocalist when I was 13. We were invited to play for this girl’s 14 year bday party. Her father and grandmother were from Mexico. Her half sister was Mexican and holy smokes was she beautiful. She was 16.
At the end of our set both sisters told me they wanted to learn to play the drums. My naive self gave them a name of some local instructors. I showed them a few licks and let them play. Then, we go inside to eat the most and only authentic Mexican food I ever had. The grandmother knew 0 English and was saying - More Tacos? She wouldn’t take no for an answer. I asked my band mate how to say no in Spanish. (Joke) - The two sisters apparently still flirting with me (what I was told later) when all of a sudden my stomach rumbles and it’s time to go!
The best part of this story was the homemade tortilla wraps for the tacos. Never since have I had anything that has come close. The bursting corn flavor was amazing.
The server tonight waits for me to finish and says - you’ll never be able to get that unless you either go to Mexico or get invited to another home.
That, hurt, my, feelings!! I’m crushed…
Maybe if anyone here wants to invite me to their home for homemade tortilla wraps and tacos - I am still searching for it!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
