Nothing pressing in Each Day

Nothing much has happened since my car got shot. Insurance is doing its thing as I wait for the call to bring my car in and pick up a rental.

M on the otherhand had a week from hell where his brain wouldn’t let him enjoy anything.

Last week was weird. I got a notification that they were looking for a facilitator for a course I teach, and my supervisor said it was fine, so I spent Wednesday and Thursday teaching online (which, suuuuucks compared to doing it in person).
Thursday night into Friday morning I got the worst headache, so I called in sick, which felt super sus since I also had booked a long weekend, so I ended up off for 4 days. I’m trying to not overthink how “bad” it might look, it was legit, I just have to force myself to think that people believe me (which is the opposite of my general assumption, I automatically assume people don’t understand me and don’t believe my lived experience).

The weekend was absolutely lovely though. M’s mood broke, we did some work on the greenhouse (picked up the french doors, basic frame built, secondary supports built, concrete poured in 3 of 4 holes, posts plumb and square). We have needed almost 4 times the amount of concrete as anticipated, which has SUCKED. We’re talking I budgeted for 3 bags (according to measurements for holes dug), and I will end up having bought 11 or 12 by the time I’m done. I feel sorry for whoever wants to tear this thing down in the future.
I still have to do ground- levelling, and a bit of trenching to keep water from becoming a problem. But of course it’s going to rain this week…
I’m looking forward to getting the first wall up. The front, with windows and french doors, and the back with literally two giant windows) are going to be the easiest. The sides will be very difficult with angles to deal with. Then I have to engineer the roof. That part also won’t be easy. Or cheap.

Ooh I finally booked my flights home. We used M’s avion points and I get to fly for free. Unfortunately that means I need to check bags (since they do this stupid “no carry on” thing for cheap flights), and since I’m military my checked bags are free. I hate checking bags, but they’ve really tied the consumer’s hands in this situation.

Anyway, this weekend was lots of time spent outside, getting high on some nice (and not so nice) hash (I made the comment to M that I never thought I’d be almost 43, standing in my back yard smoking hash with my husband. Hahaha. It’s been 7 years since legalisation and it still feels weird sometimes). At night we banged in these epic sessions and damn am I a lucky wife. And he’s a lucky husband, I know I’m a catch ;)

This weekend was a small reminder of how nice a summer day can be (when the heat is not trying to kill me). I’m looking forward to more of it.
