I’m feeling an old familiar feeling again. Rage, without merit or target. I think it is largely being enhanced by this whole “Chris, giving you an intern means you’re supposed to be able to handle more!” when the truth is, as anyone who has lived in the rational world will explain… for the first week or two, having a Trainee means things take LONGER because they need to be taught and trained. SO… expecting me to do my regular workload where I had little to no downtime and adding training onto that? It isn’t a miraculous lessening of labor; it is an increase! Granted, a temporary increase until they are comfortable, but then.... the “help” itself is temporary. SO… You take someone who has a 60 hour docket to do in 40 hours… and expect that work to get done while training someone who has never done ANY court work before? You’re killing me here. Not to mention it means I can’t do the work that needs doing in the first place. Because I have to develop “Teaching Tools” so I can let the newb learn. Well, days like today? I have over 100 hearings to prep plus an hour long meeting and after we have those 100 plus hearings, we need to immediately roll into getting ready for tomorrow. But that can’t exactly happen because we have to unpack what happened today, then preview what is on schedule for tomorrow, and instruct how we do things. This is one of those things where, call me a dick, but you NEED to be a CNTRL C/CNTRL V person! We don’t have time to take the mouse… highlight the words… right click, select copy.... take the mouse to a new document… highlight the empty space… right click, select paste. Like… this is a man younger than me. Keyboard hotkeys shouldn’t be so foreign. Is this literally what the TouchPad Era has done to young people? That they can’t cut their work by 2/3rds simply using keyboard shortcuts? But I suppose the primary frustration is just… I can’t bring this kid to “WILL DO THE JOB ON HIS OWN” because we’re not supposed to do that. The dude is required to have a supervising attorney when practicing law without a license BECAUSE of that whole… practicing law without a license. BUT… an office that has been so thoroughly pushed PAST the breaking point on staffing… doesn’t make sane or rational decisions and just does whatever it can to keep afloat. Which… is how too many government agencies have been forced to behave with the Chaos and Disorder of the Trump/Musk approach! We’re all going a little more insane everyday because the people in charge, making decisions… literally don’t know how to do that especially don’t know how to do that in a way that isn’t catastrophic for the majority of people!
Rehearsal was absolutely brilliant tonight! Lines were rough for all of us because it’s been so damned long since we did the second half of the show; but the emotional points the big moments… the show works. We need to do it for an audience; but the show works. :)
