New job, no M. in Each Day

I didn’t realize when my supervisor told me that I’d be starting my new job on the 26th that M would also be away for work. So I’m in an office all day with people who don’t talk much, eating lunch alone in my car (the only time I get to relax/not feel all the feelings about being the outsider), and then hang out with the cats all evening. I swear it feels like I’ve talked more to the cats than the people at work.

Please tell me if I’m wrong… but when someone joins a team there’s obviously a shift in the teams culture as the new person figures out how they fit in. Isn’t it on the team to integrate the new person? That’s on them, right? I mean obviously I need to make an effort too, but it’s not the responsibility of the odd person out to work themselves into the team. Right? If I’m wrong on this then I don’t understand social interactions even more than I already think I don’t understand them.

For some reason I got the urge to watch Bridget Jones’ Diary, and since I found the original movie I decided I also need to watch the sequels. I haven’t seen the third, but it’s clearly not going to be like the last book, which was incredible. I watched The Edge of Reason tonight and remembered why I’d only seen it once. It’s not great. It starts off really weak, and gets marginally better. I’ve heard good things about the third one, so maybe it will be ok.

I got out on the bike today, first ride of the season. It was so nice, just a cruise around the coastline, got some gas and took the back roads home. I was thinking about riding to work tomorrow but with craft night it’s a lot of logistics. They always make riding look like some easy breezy thing, just hop on a bike and the world is your oyster kind of shit. But they never show how inconvenient it is to need to carry a change of clothes if you’re riding to the gym, or where you’re going to put the milk you need to pick up on your way home. I need to get used to accommodating the little inconveniences so I ride more often. And wearing a backpack all the time.

I should be sleeping.
