The government hurt my people. Why would we want to vote for more government? They said point-blank that they wanted us to be dependent on them. That is why they killed the buffalo. Every time we ask for a handout, they win. That is not support, that is learned helplessness at its finest. I would rather put my faith in the people than in the politicians.
We are trying to unite and pick up the pieces but leftism is in the way. We are divided by politics that we didn’t create, which is not our fault. Forcing gender, sexuality, and political ideologies into traditional circles without community-led discussion or consent is more colonization. We got issues and huge problems to fix, and gender identity ain’t one of them, for example. That is not what our community needed. What we need is sovereignty. Healing. Resources. Cultural revival. Land. We need solutions rooted in who we are, not who others think we should become.
An Auntie at work told me a story yesterday. She witnessed a family up north bring home a caribou. They utilized every part of it. They had clothing and had food for months. That is how rich we are. That is what real wealth is. That is who we are.
