Airman in Diary

Sorry for being away for so long. I guess I got caught up too much in day to day life, the daily grind, getting too little sleep during the week and too much on the weekends. Wrapped up in the usual things I get wrapped up in. Work has been a bit of a struggle since I’ve written last. I’m finally feeling like I’m finding my comfort zone, though, such as it is. It’s still a learning process, though. I guess it always will be. There are just so many different issues that come up it’s hard to wrap my mind around everything. Anyway, enough about that.
I will say one last thing about work, though. The other day, I got a call from a young Airman, a 19-year old who had been saving up his DFAS paychecks so he could buy a wedding ring for his fiance, when out of the blue he got a letter from the bank informing him that his checking account was charged off with an $11,000 balance that was sent to collections. He told me that all this time he had been saving money, he had purposely avoided looking at his checking account, because if he did, he might be tempted to go out and spend the money. “I was trying to be smart with my money,” he said. As the call went on, he opened up and told me he had been having a hard time lately. He’d been getting in a lot of trouble lately with his superior officers, and then the bad news came from the bank. “Training is tough,” he said. What happened is that a fraudster couple had written a series of three checks and deposited them into his account, and then went on a few shopping sprees. The checks, which were all just above $4,500, were all returned, which left this young man with a huge debt. And his fiance was coming to visit soon, I’m assuming for Thanksgiving. I think he was planning to surprise her with a ring. This was the first call that made me emotional. When I talked to my supervisor about it, I choked up when I said the words ‘wedding ring’. I tried not to. Generally, I’m not a very emotional guy. But anyway, I’m going to check up on this guy’s profile every now and then to be sure he is taken care of.
Today was a long day. I got almost 6 hours sleep last night, worked for 10 hours, went to my mom’s for dinner, and then I went shopping. By the time I got home, it was 2:30 am. My dad was nice enough to go shopping with me.
I should go get my tire fixed tomorrow…but I kind of want to sit around, be lazy, and play some more Bayonetta 2.
I’m tired. I intended to write more about what I’ve been doing, but I guess this is enough. It’s time to have a few shots and kill some zombies before I crash. I’ll probably watch Good Mythical Morning and Good Mythical More, first. Well, take care everyone. I hope you’re all doing well.

Good to hear from you. I hate it when that happens to good people. =(
