Going to Denver in Open Diary Orphan

not because I am ready for a vacation but because the my son decided to jump off a high rock into water and has a c6 fracture. a compression fracture but a cervical fracture none the less. he told me by sending me a picture of himself on an ER gurney with a neck brace on giving a thumbs up. That was how he broke the ice on the subject. after I asked what happened he called. when I found out what happened and that he wasnt numb or paralyzed I got really angry with him and fussed at him. He just kept saying, Mom Im ok. but I wouldnt quit. I kept saying stuff like you’re 25 years old youre too old to do stuff like that. he finally said, Mom Im in the hospital with a broken neck I will call you when I find out what they are going to do.
He follows up with a neurosurgeon next week so I am going to Denver to go with him to the appointment. The ER said no surgery but he has to wear a neck brace. I hope the neurosurgeon says no surgery too. Just neck brace and some therapy after it heals. Hes going to be tired of a neck brace after 6 weeks or so.
I asked him if he remembered how it felt after the concussion he got last year and told him that if he gets another one he could have the same post concussive syndrome but worse. He doesn’t get it. We had numerous conversations after the bike wreck about future head injuries. I thought he got it. I thought he would make good choices with his safety at least. He is making poor choices.
I blame him but also the girl he is living with and his old high school friend that is there too. He is with a questionable crowd. He was probably high when he decided to jump off of that cliff.
Positive side, he sounds good. he isn’t hurting. he goes back to work next week. we will see how that goes. I know I need to stop worrying, but I cant.

We lost the athletic trainer contract with CHS, we don’t need CT any more but my boss is telling him that we are going after other schools. she hasn’t even talked to another school. I want to tell him to run, I cant. B said he has already told the new CEO not to let her go after another school. We don’t get referrals from them.
Ive got two more pregnant employes, two are out on maternity leave now. I cant keep staffing under control. the cancellation/no show rate is too high and I cant change that. so the therapists look unproductive but its not their fault all of the time. there are times that they don’t take people off of their schedules when they are discharged but they’re pretty good about that. the hospital system just sent out an email about the systems finances, they’re not good. and outpatient therapy isnt exactly a money maker. Its frustrating. 9:30 pm and I have a stack of paper on my table to complete before bed, dont have enough time to finish my job at work. its frustrating.
