Alistair's job interview was today. Not as many people showed up as he was expecting and there were 20 spots open. But the job wasn't exactly as it was advertised either.

For starters, the job won't actually start until March 2015 since it is a new gym opening during that time period. They plan on training them from now until then, they specifically wanted people with no experience in being a gym trainer so they could train their own people. This means that during the training it's a 16 hour a week schedule and the training pay is barely minimum wage so he would be earning next to nothing for the next 7 months. He also would have to sign a 3 year contract that basically states that he can't quit and look for work at another gym (a way to protect their asses). Also, the pay was much less than advertised; it's only about 15,000 pounds for the guaranteed salary and the rest is supposed to come from individual clients they pick up at the gym. Not a big deal, Alistair is very attractive and charming so I don't think that it would be very hard for him to pick up clients.

So he has two choices. He can either take a 6 week course for 600 quid to get the training and apply to other full time jobs at the 8 other fitness centers in the area that are all hiring right now or take this job, get the training for free but make no money for 7 months but have a guaranteed job after that. I think he should do the former if he is really interested in this career path. The money is the current biggest factor and he won't be making any currently with this job, or basically nothing essentially. He wants to have his own place (not one that his parents own) and making a decent amount so that he can fly me out a few times before we get married. I don't know if that would be possible on that salary. I mean, his parents will give him the cash if he doesn't have enough to comfortably bring me over but I think it's more about pride. He wants to show that he can provide for me on his own without his parents.
