And Here We Are in Everyday Ramblings

The hellebores are finally coming on. It’s raining today. We need it.

Thank you all for your condolences. Carlo is doing fine. We are a little shy around each other getting used to it being only the two of us. Carlo is a big healthy grown-up cat, playful still and more sensible about food than his brother was. He won’t be able to get food cans open on his own and so far, there has been no late-night cabinet bapping. He’s been sleeping through with me.

The hardest thing right now is how fast it all happened. Sammy and Stella were both sick and declining gradually. I had time to do some preparatory grieving. Diego has been chronically ill for about six years. I knew I would lose him someday, but I assumed there were going to be more tests and meds and trips to the vet. Lots more.

Carrying on with the caregiving.

To have it come to a full stop is a bit of a shock to the system. Diego’s favorite color was red and Kes is going to plant some red poppies over him. He is next to their teenage Crepe Myrtle as the peony bed was full.

After a group of busy weeks with all the League work and being drafted onto the Open Road Project board and healing from the delayed dental surgery I am blessedly in a little lull right now.

I am going to order some seeds, helenium’s and a sweet small yellow tomato variety. We are due for what I hope is our last frost in the next few days and I want to get down and weed the plot after that. It is mostly the edges. I left a couple of columbines and a black-eyed Susan to overwinter.

We will see how they do. We might get snow tomorrow. I understand many of us are in for crazy weather.

That’s it. Thanks Again. Stay safe if you can.

Poppies sound like a lovely way to remember him. Big hug to you, friend.
