One of the best metaphors I've come across as for our sense of self is that we are the ongoing story that we write for ourselves. Far more than an image, we portray ourselves as the result of all the events that have brought us to this point. And as a story in progress, we already have an idea of what future chapters will bring, and live assuming that is what will happen.

Change happens when you change your story. It's more than turning the page and starting a new chapter. It's about reimagining all the events of your life and realizing that they can take you in an entirely different direction. The moment you commit to that new direction, suddenly, you're a whole new "you." You feel free from the shackles of that previous story.

For me, it was realizing that the direction I had written myself forced me to think of myself in a way that I just couldn't live with. So I retconned myself and took an entirely different path. I see so many people stuck in their stories. We all NEED to shake up our lives now and then, and in doing so, change the way we think about ourselves.

I don't believe we ever really change, in terms of identity or the way we act. I believe over time, we become more ourselves.

l love this! We don't change...we become more ourselves. (if we're brave enough!)

Make two lists. Imagine you're old and retired. Picture what you would be doing on a daily basis. What would you do when you woke up? Mid-day? Evening? Where would you be. The other list, write down everything you're discontent with right now, or anxious about in the future.

Change everything about the later to reach the former, and live that life as soon as possible.
