Time to Relax in Everyday Ramblings

I think they call these dinner plate dahlias. This one is just slightly past its prime. It is in the garden a few feet away from my plot. Because of the heat and lack of rain I have been down at the garden about twice as much this year as last. There are only a few more weeks max before the tomatoes stop producing.

Today I started my volunteer discussion leader gig with the League of Women Voters. Everyone has been so supportive. It is a lot to learn though. Today we talked about the City Charter Amendments that are on the ballot in November and how to encourage folks to vote for them. It is a big deal as we have always had this strange form of government that was established in 1913 and whoa baby do we need a change.

It is a relief to have gotten through it in such a cheerful and informative way. Doing things that involve other people one doesn’t know for the first time is a major challenge for me. It is not like I have never run a meeting before, but running one online on a subject I am not strong in…

The future meetings will be much more manageable. Plus, I had all summer to get anxious about this. But yay, it is done.

There is Mexican music outside my bedroom window, low enough that I can only hear the repetitive beat. It is the painters; they are still here. The property manager says they have committed to fixing the broken railing today. We shall see how that goes. They haven’t painted any of the railings anywhere yet.

The color they used on the siding in one I would describe as “wet cement”, this grayish brown, and the accent color is a turquoise blue with white trim everywhere. At least it is fresh paint and overall, they are doing a good job in spite of my annoyance. This place is about 15 years old.

Diego recovered from his difficulties. He has been more clingy though. He goes through phases. Clingy and more clingy. They were remarking on his persistence on being in my lap during the Old Man’s book club on Sunday. They got into talking about sports at the end.

There is a reason I call it the Old Man’s club. One of the guys has done quite a bit of character acting on television. I am finding out a little more about them all each time we meet. I can say that because everyone in the group has a background in the arts that they are all open to nuance, subtlety, and dry humor and that is refreshing.

And everyone does talk about books through most of the meeting.

I need to catch up on the balance class I missed yesterday and do some chores.

And, oh yeah, relax.
As much as one can with painters and music as a complete surround sound experience.
