Home invasion in broad daylight in Questions

My wife and I stepped outside to go get a load of laundry and our apartment manager was out talking to one of our neighbors with a bunch of police officers.

She was the victim of a home invasion today.
In broad daylight.

This isn’t helping my growing paranoia for what’s to come tonight.

I fucking wish we could move.

This used to be such a quiet little neighborhood

That's scary. Part of me wishes I didn't mind cold weather because I wouldn't mind moving to Canada or some of the Northern European countries.

Yes indeed, people are becoming so desperate for money that they're doing anything to get it these days, and it's only going to get worse. Just wait until later this summer and this upcoming fall. SIGH SMH.

Yeah...we're stocked up but...I dunno. I just don't know.

I hate to say it, but I have guns and I'm not going to the range training to hurt someone.

Yeah, that's a very good plan, stay stocked up with plenty of water, non-perishable food, and weapons, in case it gets to the point where people try to break into your home to steal what you have.

Yeah, I'm definitely worried about people breaking in and trying to get what we have. One of the silver linings is that we live in a poorer area, just a little apartment track in an unsavory neighborhood, so hopefully people will start looting the richer neighborhoods first.

But then again, the richer neighborhoods will probably have some sort of police protection. So I dunno...I think if it gets REALLY bad, we're going to go up to Orange County with my dad and bring all of our stuff with us. My dad and step mom have like 2 years worth of food and a few giant drums of water, more guns, and their neighborhood is a labryinth that all of the neighbors have agreed to barricade with their cars when shit goes down.

Yeah, good, well at least you have a plan....I hope things don't go south though. I hope that.....somehow, someway, people and the world are drawn back to some kind of normalcy, whatever that is.

I look as poor and eccentric as I can. My car is in good shape due to lack of use. Betrays me. I used-to be friendly and open with neighbors now I am wary. All but 2 windows closed. I try to have home situational awareness. Mobile home park. Last winter walking, I noticed a man freezing his ass off sitting in a driveway with a radio. Every day. "Drug house" I thought. Obvious lookout. Good thing about drug houses is the smart one's don't want attention. I know from stupid experience ;-)

Yeah, I definitely like to look as poor and eccentric as possible...which is actually kind of easy because I live in Southern California, so even with my salary we're still pretty much poor people, and I am bipolar so the eccentric part is easy.

Dude in the driveway definitely sounds like a scout. I've lived in a couple of trap houses myself, back in the day. I used to love the drugs, and selling the drugs, and doing the drugs...not so much anymore. Getting older is a strange experience. Like...as much as you'd still like to be doing the drugs, the drugs just kind of take more than they give these days.

I stick to beer, occasionally some whiskey, and occasionally some cannabis. It's all legal...I'm an adult. I can avoid reality if I damn well please, haha.

The fuck of it all is that our neighbors that had their home invasion are in the same boat as us. We all might be on the poorer side of things...but the homeless, drug addicted vets that roam are streets are poorer than we are, and they have a lot less to lose.

I wish my heart went out to them. I wish I felt compassion instead of contempt. I wish I felt charitable instead of suspicious.

But I don't have guns to protect my family from the government.

I'm sorry that happened in your neighborhood. One of my biggest fears is being home and someone tries to get in. F'n assholes.

Superposition SweetMelissa ⋅ June 26, 2022

Yeah, it happened to my grandma when she was home in Irvine. So if it can happen there, it can happen anywhere. We just also have a lot more homeless crack addicted veterans and gang members than they do in Irvine.
