I redid my sign ups for my classes for the Fall 2014 semester this morning. It's honestly really disgusting how my transcript looks right now. It seems to be all W grades even though most if not all of them were dropped before the required deadline so I'm not even sure why they're on there in the first place. I figured that if you dropped a class before the cut off date they wouldn't be on your transcript at all. Well, they are although I'm pretty sure it doesn't affect the GPA anyway, which I don't think it would matter if they did because my GPA is awful right now.
I decided to sign up for every class that I have ever gotten a W or F in since Fall 2010 to try and boost my GPA and maybe even get rid of some of the Ws. From the research that I've done it seems that the Ws never truly go away which isn't a good sign for me since I have about 3 semesters worth of W grades from leaving school. I'm trying to see if I can't get some of them taken off due to a major family death since I am retaking all of the classes again anyway. Hopefully they'll show some leniency but we'll see how to goes. Maybe the colleges I apply to will see I came back twice as strong and will ignore the first few semesters. A lot of maybes for something so important isn't what I like to say.
I sent an email to the college to see what can be done about them. I'm not sure if they'll be able to do anything at all but it's all I can do. And the University I go to has a 98% acceptance rating so maybe I'm just fretting over nothing really major.
I'm taking four courses in the Fall Semester and two courses in the winter. That will cover every W grade I've gotten in the past 4 years aside from one that wasn't offered this semester (maybe it's a Spring only one, not entirely sure).
Fall 2014- Economics (Macro), Medical Terminology, English 2, Art Appreciation
Winter 2014 - Intro Sociology, Abnormal Psychology (new course)
Spring 2015 (pending) - Math 2, Animal Biology
That's a big increase from the two classes I took this last semester. But I feel like I finally have some motivation to do a lot better this semester and I did good last semester without trying at all. I would have had Math 2 up there on the Fall list but they want you to come to campus between 6pm-8pm once a month for exams and I'm not ready for that yet.
A lot of those courses I don't even need in all honesty but I would rather just take them to get the grades and the chance to work with the college to get rid of the W grades. And hopefully retaking them will make my transcript just look better overall.
I was also sitting and thinking about what to do with my money that I got from Financial Aid. I got about $6,000 estimated from the Grant and $10,000 from the loan. I don't really need the loan right now because tuition for full time is only about $2,500 per semester but I could really use a new laptop. I still have some money for college in my bank account so I could pay for the first semester, buy the laptop and then use the rest to pay for the second semester and use the money in the bank to pay off the rest. Was thinking of getting a Mac Air because I'd definitely need a laptop for school and I know of a lot of people who have them. This is assuming that they will even give me the rest of the money from my grant, I think they're supposed to for like living expenses and what not after they pay for your tuition but this is my first year getting Financial Aid money so not entirely sure.
