summerteeth in poetry

that first night of summer with the air conditioner on
you feel like you've defeated nature
that first night of with the air conditioner on
you feel like you're a god
that first night
when you're wrapped in cool air
like the baby Jesus in swaddling clothes
that first night
you are renewed

that first night
you want to make it so cold in your room
three months ago
had it been that cold
you would've turned up the heater
but now you just want it even cooler
because this is your doing
it's different
it's your cold
it's a whole different thing
when you're in control
that first night

that first night
you are victorious
technology is magic
its fruit is glorious
you have defeated the sun
the sky is the devil
you are the chosen one
you beat that bastard
you got it done
with a little help
from the miracle box
upon your window sill
okay more than a little help
but still
that bastard summer is defeated
the A/C's on
you are de-heated
that first night
you have won

however within a week or two?
you're totally used to it
it is no longer miraculous
it is just a given
it is simply assumed
this is the past-and-forever
state of your room
until the winter comes
of course
when it's like that
all the time outdoors
that's when you'll want it
warm

trying to control our indoor climates can be such a bitch.

I really like this. "you have defeated the sun" especially. :) Are you going to read it live?
