cool blue light and peace in poetry

turns out that we can’t live forever
but there is a next-best possibility
the idea we might get to live a life
where we see so many wonderful things
where we do so very much so very long
that we will be fully overstimulated
that we will be so damn tuckered-out
that reaching an end won’t be so bad

we’ll be so overwhelmed
we will be so exhausted
that rest will be okay

children at some big amusement park
oh, the twisty-turny rollercoasters
all those foods and games and shows
the long-expected come to pass
the unexpected kicking our ass
putting heads upon cool pillows
in air-conditioned hotel rooms
souvenir dolls in our arms
the blue television glow
our parents by our sides
time to just collapse
time to finally rest

what wonders we have seen
what challenges overcome
but worn out completely
now just spent and done
so maybe if we’re lucky
we’ll get a second-best
get well-deserved rest
