ignorance in Bittersweet

My coworker made a joke like 2 weeks ago about people wanting 2 weeks vacay could just claim covid.
And i kinda giggled. Iti s kinda funny. Till you think.
two weeks without pay. two weeks without income. Yes husband works and we will make enough to get by. But lets face it. my income is our food budget. Uhhh so we have two weeks less ( around 800) of money to put to our food budget and other small bills. You know that puts us in a really shitty position. Ill get 60 hours on my next pay check ( minus the two days i called out) So uhh yeah. My next pay check is already going to be short and then two weeks after that with no pay check. Its not a walk in the park. Sure im going to sit at home and watch tv or some random shit. But its also going to hurt. Unless you are rich taking an 800 dollar blow is going to hurt anyone. Because its not just two weeks without pay. Its waiting a few weeks after that to get the next check too.
I guess its easy when you have someone to take care of you and im lucky that T works. Because its going to keep us going but its going to hurt pretty bad.
But on the other hand. Ive already ready a book, coughed my brains up and tried not to throw up from all the couching. Worked on my spinning wheel and played games on my cell phone… Not going to mind the whole sitting around thing....
unfortunately i cant smell anything, i cough constantly and my taste is all wonky too.

You are right ; not only are you sick but you get punished for it. Your company and every company should have to pay Covid pay. If you were not working with the public, you probably would not have gotten sick.. I know if I was short that much in a month , it would really hurt and my husband works too ; but it takes both our money to stay on top of bills and eat . So I know exactly what you are saying . I am sorry you have to go through this.

Oh wow, I thought it was a federal law for COVID pay? Maybe it's just CA? We all get 80 hours of pay for COVID if we have it, are quarantining cause we are waiting on test results, or need to care for somebody who has it. If you don't use it (like I didn't need to) it also applies to the vaccine, if you need to take time off work for it due to not feeling well.
