Peter's b'day dinner in Adventures in paradise

I’ve been having a few depressive-days, which hasn’t been fun. Thankfully I’ve learned over the years that a sleep generally keeps it at bay and I feel better in the morning, like now. Yesterday however, I slept twice. The bags under my eyes were huge, despite sleeping, so I slept again in the afternoon, awaking around 8pm, watching a few movies (“Enough Said” on Disney+ was really good and made me think about connections and relationships and how they work with some people and not others, wheras insert a different person and it’s a completely different story) and after that I watched “Table 19” which was a bit silly but had Anna Kendrick and Lisa Kudrow in it, so yeah, it was okay.

Sunday after work I went to Peter’s birthday dinner, where I saw people I only ever see once per year at that event. Well, I’d intended to go home and relax to mentally prepare myself for an event (being an introvert is fucking exhausting!) but then an annoucement came over the building PA to evacuate floors 17-20. Great! I’m on Floor 18. So I couldn’t even have a shower and had to quickly throw whatever clothes on and evacuate just incase. And I didn’t know if I’d be let back up in time. So yeah, great. Couldn’t even dress properly for the occasion. I sat outside in the gutter with a bunch of other people and saw a fire truck pull up. From what I heard, it wasn’t even my building, but the one on the opposite side. Some idiot had thrown a cigarette down the garbage chute?

Anyway, as I had to head straight there, I waited outside until I saw someone I recognized. Josh and Jamie saw me waiting outside so they waited with me, then Josh recognized one of the guys at a table inside, so in we went.
I sat across from a guy who I know I knew, but I couldn’t remember his name for the life of me. Always the worst, but hey, I’ve barely ever seen the guy. I think his name is Eli now that I’ve thought bout it over two days, but I’m still not sure. Anyway, Josh and Jamie were there, which was interesting. I’ve known Jamie for years although, again, we never hang out or see each other, but he used to date a guy I’m a bit closer to, Chris, but now he is dating Josh. Josh on the other hand, I’ve met via a different friend who now lives in London, and Josh is cute as FUCK. I’m not really that keen on Jamie, but Josh is, and they are a cute couple. As I was seated next to Josh (and across from ‘Eli’), I could see Josh rubbing Jamie’s leg beneath the table. I was part like, “Oh that’s cute” but of course also like, “Lucky Jamie” haha. Chris was/is really cute too so I guess Jamie and I like similar guys.

Anyway, dinner was at Himalayan cafe and I only really knew the birthday boy, Josh and another guy, Rob, who sat up the other end of the table near Peter, and didn’t really know any of the others, except sort of, Jamie. I did remember that the guy who’s name had slipped my mind was hilarious, so he had everyone laughing when talking about his experience of riding Lime scooters and going over the handlebars. I said a few things that I can’t remember now but everyone was attentive and listened which was nice, even though the music in there made it a bit hard to hear. I kind of wish Peter would choose an outside table but it’s always inside. I often wonder if I have my dad’s hearing, but his is from years of farm machinery before enclosed cabins were a thing, so I don’t think it’s that. I can hear fine when there aren’t other noises around or if someone is in close promiximity even if there is loud music, but not when someone’s trying to talk across the table.
I walked home and the dinner was done by 9:30pm - probably a benefit of most of us being in our mid to late 30’s now haha. Gave Josh and Jamie a hug goodbye and a wave to everyone else. Peter just sent everyone his details via the group invite so we could all pay him back. Much easier way to go about it.

Mum sent a further update on Ma last night, saying that while Ma was in the shower, the doctor told her that Ma’s ‘mass’ is very close to her jugular and main artery, and if it ruptures, it’ll bleed out quickly. Whomever is around will need to apply towels and call the ambulance. I can’t believe they aren’t moving her closer to Toowoomba when they know this is going to probably happen, because Pittsworth doesn’t have a hospital in the town. It’ll take an ambulance around 20 minutes at high-speed to get into Toowoomba I’d say. Maybe it’s a deliberate thing, and Ma doesn’t want to leave the comfort of home I suppose. So, it sounds like I’ll be taking some personal leave sometime shortly.
