I’ve sort of been a bit of a seamstress lately. Rather than throwing out torn old clothes and broken buttons etc, I’ve been watching YouTube videos and repairing them by hand. I’ve repaired a few pairs of pants rips (mostly pockets) and a few button reattachments. Much more convenient and cheaper than buying new ones like I have in the past. In fact, my size has been the only reason I’ve needed to buy new clothes lately. I don’t even think I still fit into a few of the pants I repaired anymore lol. And it’s a pretty flimsy job, let’s face it. The holes will probably reappear in no time. At first I was using the technique of just folding the fabric next to the hole over it, and whilst it worked, it removed space in the pocket and my knife would keep calling from my pocket at work.
I even cut up some old pairs of socks and have sewn the thicker pieces of them onto the holes in my shoes. It looks weird, but i figure most people won’t notice unless they actually look. Plus it allows me to keep wearing my old falling-apart fabric shoes to work and gym, which ARE worn in. Trying to wear in the leather pair I bought a while back just constantly makes my toenails push into the toe next to them and I’m uncomfortable and bleeding by the time I get home. So this is a temporary (or hopefully extended) fix.
I even went and bought fabric today. I was going to go to Lincraft but their hours sucked, so I went to Big W. Nowhere near as good of a range but they had a 1meter roll of black fabric and a few other colours which I am going to try and fix some old board shorts and shirts with. The good thing about ripped shorts is that they are actually a fashion trend! Right now people would just see my underwear though, so i figure I will sew a similar colour patch to the inside, which will hide the underwear, and I’ll have my shorts back!
This is my life. I’m excited about hand sewing at age 37 😅

I decided to go to gym whilst I was out. I got to gym and realised I didn’t have my gym card! I definitely had it earlier when I left. So I backtracked to Big W, and I spotted it, camouflaged on the white tiles. Thank GOD. It had fallen from my pocket (not via a hole this time!) when I’d taken my wallet out, as I had it seperate to find more conveniently. So that was a relief. I’m at the gym now.

I think I already wrote that the doctor left Ma’s and said she only has a few weeks left to live now. I dunno - I’m okay at the moment, but I’m an emotional bitch when they play video montages and music at funerals, ergh. I guess I’ll be having another Saturday off work sometime soon.

Works already asked me to stay back tomorrow so that’ll help pay off some of the hire car. It was good getting a good pay last week for doing only 14 hours work, two being public holidays not worked (which are paid at normal rate) and one worked (which was paid at double-time). I had to pay the credit card bill (that included the sofa) yesterday, so I timed it well. Still, Ouch lol.

The video/photo montages get me at funerals too 😭 but I think that's what they're meant to do I guess.

I don’t like the idea of video montages at funerals - people are sad enough without being forced to cry! 😕
