Taking a break to do some bunny work. I think its been a bit since i shared them.
I went ahead and shaved Frostbite and Harmony. Harmony is old enough to have babies and is in the mood. She was presenting her booty every chance lol. I havent bred her between the heat but also she had a lump on her belly. It was soft and moveable but quite large. Its been more then a month and people were suggesting a hernia which is a no breed fly zone. Well its GONE! Shaved her entire belly and its gone! Yay she can be bred! Shes a big meaty doe so hopefully will produce nice large babies! shes also an unrelated genetic so i needed her genes.
Harmony before.

Harmony after. Ignore my totes that still arent unpacked. I need bookshelves and ive got expensive taste so not getting anything till i get the ones i want.haha.

Frost bite is 2 now. Hes a daddy and his son Penny is a stunner, daughter sunny is amazing! I need to shave both of them here soon too :)
Anyway FB was my daughters pick and one of two Alaskan bred babies that i still have.

FB after. He had a bit of a sore from a mat on his side. I feel bad, FB takes a lot to mat up, and the move and my not grooming so much while settling in and being generally run down from the thyroid shit. They get the brunt sometimes.... When he needed more grooming, i slacked. He had two mats on his sides. But they are gone and he feels MUCH better.

So my does ready to breed are Harmony. Mara, Amber, I possibly sunny is old enough. She was an early spring baby, may be better off waiting for fall for Sunny and Pandora. They are this springs babies.
I have a lot of bucks.. Sigh. Possibly baby daddies include Teddy, FB, Jack, Briar, Domino,

Babies from my harli litter are only a couple months and not ready till next year. I still have 3 does from that litter. Next spring ill breed the lot. For this fall, I think ill do Briar and Mara again ( harli pair) Amber Teddy again ( pandora and nibblers parents) and Harmony Domino. No idea what happens when you pair magpie with a self. But we will find out!

Buns are doing good, minus voodoo went blind in one eye. But it dosent effect his wool or breed ability either! :D

So for juniors not ready to breed, makes up the bulk of my herd. Ive got two nameless fawn does, rew sister ( avalanche) voodoo brother. Then Sunny and Penny, siblings and Frostbites offspring. Hmmmm.... Sometimes it sounds like less then i have? haha. Am i missing some?!

They are so pretty! Do your kids show for 4H?

ChainedChrysalis Small Town Girl ⋅ October 04, 2020

No, It would be great if they did, They arent interested. I spin their wool and make and sell things from it. Ill sell the raw, the spun and finished items. I was doing rabbit shows before I moved. But now there is a rabbit virus going around where I moved that is basically bunny ebola. They bleed out and die in 24 hours. So i dont want them around too many other people really.

Small Town Girl ChainedChrysalis ⋅ October 04, 2020

Oh wow! That's terrible! Bunny ebola would be so hard to watch the poor things suffer! Glad you are keeping them safe!!

ChainedChrysalis Small Town Girl ⋅ October 04, 2020

From what ive seen, its pretty ugly :(
I keep them inside a shed and a couple are outside in solid hutches. So less likely they can pick it up off of something. Its still a scary thing and a possibility. The vaccine is around 20 a bun, and yearly. Not small change when i have 17 of them.

Small Town Girl ChainedChrysalis ⋅ October 04, 2020

Oh wow! 17!?

ChainedChrysalis Small Town Girl ⋅ October 05, 2020

Yeah haha. Ive had as many as 50. I breed, Keep some, sell some. I blew out half a dozen of them today and nearly ready to shear 3 of them :) the other few will be ready in the next month.

Small Town Girl ChainedChrysalis ⋅ October 06, 2020

That is so cool!

ChainedChrysalis Small Town Girl ⋅ October 07, 2020

They are pretty awesome critters. I took some new photos of a few of them the other night. I blew out 6 or so near shearing, Got some lovely sunset bunnies haha. Ill post them when i upload them. Im kinda slow.

I wonder if you can buy the vaccine and give it to them yourself ?

ChainedChrysalis Jinn ⋅ October 05, 2020

No. Almost all the rabbit breeders around have tried. The only way to get the vaccine, is to import it from the UK. It has to be temperature controlled and you need to be a vet to buy it. It sucks because most rabbit owners ARE used to doing their own vaccines and animal husbandry. Most vets consider rabbits to be exotics and dont study exotics. If one of us could get our hands on the vaccine, we would. Hopefully someone in the USA will manufacture it in the next few years and we can get it for cheaper.

That is too bad :-(
