Decisions decisions in Current Events

I feel like I am a political opinion surrogate for some of my friends and family. They feel afraid to say what I say because of cancel culture. I’m also a mini terrorist to my friends on the left because I do not let the privilege shaming posts slide. I’m not one to engage with SJWs but my comments are more for other readers. I finished watching last night’s Conservative leadership debate and one thing that made me feel relaxed was that they all agreed that their party wants to diversify thought and culture. There are a lot of us ex-liberals that are politically homeless because of the regressive left. There is plenty of room for that when we don’t play the label game and believe in equal opportunity and not equality of outcome. I am only rooting for Derek Sloan because he is going after culture. We need to win the culture war. Society is sick and emotionally incontinent. He is also not afraid to make bold moves like defund the WHO and leave the Paris agreement and get rid of bills that take away parent’s rights.

Christianity is a part of Canadas identity that I never really opened myself up to. I’m thinking that once this shit show is over I should go with my grandmother to church once in a while. She goes to the church that LGBT groups hate because this church talks about how to prevent homosexuality. I think it would be interesting to have discussions with the pastors and such about stuff like this. My grandfather, my family on my dad’s side have their own church. Yes, I’m the grandson of a preacher man. I used to go to church with my friend Devon. I didn’t hate it. It was like a motivational speech every Sunday. I used to go to Sunday school also and enjoyed the Bible stories. My mother did not let us get baptized, she refuses to make decisions like that for us. She compromised by sending us to Sunday school and Bible camp. Personally, the gnostic teachings are more what I am into. The 45 texts that were omitted or rewritten in the canon that we have today. It tells a different story about Jesus, from Jesus.

Anyway, I am still trying to get through a dense series about the war on sensemaking. It’s not dumbed down and they explain how dumbing things down keeps us dumbed down. Guilty as charged. I have my friend Jenson on my mind while I am getting through this series. He is an intelligent, successful man who works at Cambridge University and so I don’t understand why he is failing so hard at sense-making during these current events. He is being truthful but not true. Truthful is when you honestly propagate broken information that is not representative of reality. I show him independent, verifiable information that shows him that his opinions are misrepresentative and he goes silent. Or he just slews together words like racist or some kind of phobia and thinks that is an argument. He does not have the ability to hold more than one viewpoint which is necessary for good sense-making. I try to pay attention to my own biases, I look at my own sloppiness in thinking and I am trying to grow my attention span. I defer my sense-making to various individuals because the complexities of the world cannot be processed by one mind alone. I need to rely on collective intelligence. People who are good at sense-making. Unfortunately, those are the individuals’ everybody hates but I can trust their sense-making because they use data points and can map out an argument that is fact-based and not feeling based. Not that we can trust all facts. The ecology of information is what is broken.

So yeah, It’s another fine day in lockdown. Nova Scotia has zero cases of COVID but is still in lockdown? Trudont extended this lockdown to shut down parliament. He wants to give away money to gain popularity. I decided that I am not going to wait for my craft store to reopen. I’m going to start looking for essential work. Rioting is essential work but that is not my style. I’m giving myself this weekend to take into consideration if I am also going to take some courses over this summer. On Monday I will apply if I do decide to do that. It’s just adult ed to get some prerequisites. I’m aiming for Human Nutritional Studies at the University but I don’t want to do a first-year and pay for courses that I do not want or need. I could get a degree in nutrition online… decisions decisions. If there is one thing that COVID showed us it is that our personal health is now important. Who was vulnerable during this pandemic that we are all in lockdown for? People with heart disease, obesity, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory issues. We just accept these as old age or genetics and ignore the huge role that nutrition and behaviour play. You don’t smoke if you want to protect yourself from lung cancer and so you shouldn’t eat cheese if you want to protect yourself from breast cancer. Things like that. Anyway, I should go do something now. Ta
