The Internet is down in Life After 60

The four words that bring fear into every IT Professional. Any business that fully relies on the internet without a backup plan is asking for trouble. And let’s face it, almost all businesses rely on the internet for something. And when it breaks that is where I come in. Your not so friendly, (at times) IT Tech.
Sometimes it is a simple fix and everyone is back online with just a few interruptions. But then there are times where is it a problem like someone cutting a fiber-optic line a hundred miles away. Or God decides that the IT Department has been goofing off too much and sends a lighting strike to knock out one of the two pieces of equipment that provides internet to the entire building in which you are responsible for maintaining.
Now that I know what the problem is and what it will take to get everyone back into cyber-space it is a matter of getting the part. Simple really. Just go on Amazon, order the part and choose One Day Shipping. Ah, there is the rub!
Much like the “No Waiting” sign, (see previous post), One Day Shipping is truly that, One Day Shipping, with the notable exceptions. It does not apply on weekends, does not apply if your delivery company has changed drivers and the new driver can’t find your address, or if your order is not picked up by the carrier before their cut-off time! One day shipping means it will ship in one day barring any problems. And when you are dealing with an entire school district that can’t take roll, charge for lunches, or teach a class without technology, Murphy’s Law will bite you in the butt every time!!!
So, how has Murphy’s Law affected you this week? And remember it is only Monday. So to the phone lines we go....Hello, caller, you are on the air…Uh, caller are you there? (Line goes dead) Looks like Murphy just got another victim.
