Babies Day 4 in Tales from a Rabbit Breeder

Both babies are still alive. They still dont nurse on the nipple they just lay there while i squeeze the milk in so slowly. But they get chubby, Not fat, but chubby and eventually get tired and stop eating. Im always afraid they are going to asperate milk, but so far so good.
4 years of rabbit breeding and the first time ive had bottle babies…
They are doing ok. And alive. so i guess thats all that matters.

How often do you have to feed them ? I know wild baby rabbits only are fed a couple times a day . I tried to rehab a couple but I was overfeeding them so handed them over to a rehab person who knew what they needed. You have to make them go to the bathroom too , right ? Bottlefeeding kittens is much easier :-) Those bunnies are truly cute !

A rabbit, domestic or wild, only nurses her kittens once, MAYBE twice a day at most. Their milk is extremely fatty. I bottle feed my kits 2-3 times a day. Because the formula isnt going to be a fatty as mama.
I dont have to potty them. They do it on their own. I just change their bedding every few days because it gets messy. They are living in a plastic easter basket, with a layer of their mamas wool down ( absorbant, soft and smells like bunny) and then a piece of cloth, and more mama wool. Just a tiny bit, seeing its over 80 in the house. They dont need much to keep them warm.
So really i just mix 1 teaspoon formula with 2 teaspoons hot water, and each baby eats a bit over a teaspoon. Their bellies are nice and fat today and the tort colored one actually sucked on the nipple instead of me dribbling and him swallowing. Progress!
