Things I Learned Over the Weekend in These Foolish Things

Bachelor Party Marty: He started making some elaborate plans for “us” late last week regarding Sunday after his return from…what else? A bachelor party! He had multiple options outlined - most of which would involve him coming over and me answering the door in some sexy lingerie or other various states of undress and doing stuff without saying a word. I have to be honest - I was pretty excited thinking about seeing him after the absolute shit show that’s gone down the last few weeks involving me and anything to do with men. I can always count on good old (young) BPM. So when I texted him Saturday afternoon to find out the timing of when I’d have the pleasure of his company, he didn’t text back for a long time. And then finally, The Text. It was the text telling me that he’s actually seeing someone now and that he wanted to respect the relationship (even though he’d already thought out all of the naughty little details of our rendezvous). But what can you do, you know? Good for him for wanting to make it work with his new girl and great for me that he didn’t GHOST me. I felt okay with just a twinge of sadness because there goes my booty back-up, but honestly, I’m hoping that it frees that space in my heart/brain that he occupied so I can work on filling that whole space with someone/something else. Goodbye, Bachelor Party Marty. It was a good run.

Lesson learned: yes I CAN be intimate with someone and not fall in love, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt at all. It aches a little.

Cleaning Time: In a bit over two hours of time and in preparation for a little love fest, I cleaned out a bunch of clutter before BPM put the breaks on our afternoon delight, but I’m super happy that I did it on a rainy Saturday. Since the last time I decluttered a couple of years ago - as in, took everything out of my closet, got rid of a million things and then put it all back together again, neatly - it’s gotten a bit out of control and I’m in need of like a week-long staycation (or a move) to get focused enough to super deep declutter. Regardless, it felt good even though there was a let-down at the end of it.

Lesson learned: ABD - always be decluttering.

Keep Going Out: I gotta remember that fun things tend to happen when I get myself out there. I hadn’t been to dinner with Maria in a while, so we decided to meet at a restaurant in between our two places in the fancy part of town on Saturday night (we’d actually met there for 4th of July and I think that was the last time I saw her!). Anyway, she’d invited another woman who I don’t really like that much, but fine. We had fun talks sitting outside on a patio, but then it started to rain so we went inside to the bar and a guy that Maria knew from “talking” with him on Bumble sat right down next to us. Long story short: he and I kinda hit it off. Maria’s friend left early on and Maria stayed for a while to introduce us and let the three of us have a lively discussion (and SHE was the one who was pushing me over to him), and then she left at just the right time. Now, I don’t know about this dude, but we made a date for tomorrow night, so there you go.

Lesson learned: You never know who you’ll end up sitting next to - ever. So ALWAYS be prepared. The other lesson I have learned as a combination of the last three times I’ve gone out is to always wear a plunging neckline. At my age (50), my small, perky natural breasts have become something of a highlight of every evening in some way or another.

Foodie Food Food: I’ve decided that my eating habits have slipped over the past couple of weeks so I decided to try to go back on the DASH diet for a couple of weeks. Bought bunches of veggies and chicken breasts and stuffs to make basically protein and veggie meals over the coming days. This was before I accepted three dates (two dudes and one standing invitation to craft and drink wine on Thursday night after work). I suppose that a few good days and a couple of tiny cheats are better than a whole week of big binges, right? I’m going to limit the wine intake and do my best to be as good as I possibly can. I have great intentions and I know I can do this. I’ve already almost made it through the workday without slipping up. I will not beat myself up, but I will also not fall off the wagon!

Lesson learned: I don’t know if it’s a lesson yet, but I’m calling this an experiment. I hope that at the end of this week I’ve learned that I can actually stay focused and still have fun!

(And yes, you read correctly, I do have TWO dates this week…definitely more to follow on that!)
