the zone in poetry

Just because your prayers got answered
doesn’t mean you’ll get
the answer you were hoping for.

Just because your wishes got granted
doesn’t mean you’ll get
they’ll turn out how you planned.

Someone much better than me once said
the price of getting what you wanted is
getting what you once wanted.
Somewhere along the way
maybe in the process of the work
of getting what you once wanted
you changed and now
it’s not what you wanted anymore.
You’re not what you wanted anymore.

Just because you didn’t sell your soul
doesn’t mean it’s what you own
wishes get twisted here
not just The Twilight Zone.
