There was peace in the land. I just renewed my contract, and I started to feel safer at work. Then I put my foot in my mouth.
Long backstory short, in October, my employers intercepted a letter I wrote addressed to the board of directors. It was good-faith whistleblowing, and they broke like 4 laws retaliating. They reframed it as misconduct, naturally, and denied me a promotion, then put me on a PIP (performance improvement plan).
On Friday, I was inconvenienced when I went to a shop, and I wrote a scathing Google review about it because it is not a crime. They are listed as open; I drove across town, and they were closed. I left a voicemail for them to call me when they were open, too.
Come Monday, yesterday, the owner shows up at my workplace to confront me about that review. It was from my personal email. I did not state where I worked. I do not have it listed anywhere where I work. He had zero reason to know where I worked, but he found me anyway. Front reception brought some short brute, and he introduced himself and asked to speak to me privately. I bring him into our boardroom, and then he tells me he is the owner of that business I wrote a review for. He shows me a video of his sister with partial face paralysis from a stroke she had. I did not know this, but he also emailed my employers about the review to get them to make me take it down.
Obviously, I took the review down, but I was so disturbed. He wouldn’t tell me how he tracked me down. My boss is on holiday, so I reported the incident to his boss. She was only interested in an email she received about it from her boss. She read it to me. They wanted her to follow up on that review. She only wanted me to tell her what to say in that email.
I went to HR about it. She hadn’t heard about this review, but she was at least on my side. For now, at least. She was ready to call the man, but I forgot his name. It was not appropriate to do what he did. I wrote an email about the incident for her. We will see what happens.
I know this is going to blow out of proportion because I stated in the review that I wouldn’t do business with them anymore. So his psycho ass decided to hunt down what business I work for, etc. So creepy! My employers are gonna a) make this about them. “you represent the organization.” and/or b) punish me on behalf of a beloved indiegnous owned business. That’s what I feel like is gonna happen. Best case scenario, it stays where it belongs. Between me and that establishment.
A woman just quit on Friday because management came down on her over her Facebook posts. She doesn’t post about work, but she has BDP (borderline personality disorder) and overshares her life on Facebook. Like, wtf?!
Blah! Anyway. Had a serious talk with Carlo yesterday. There were tears. Will follow up on that eventually. Ugh. Mercury must be in retrograde. Yesterday morning, I had someone confront me at the gym because I was taking too long on a machine. I was on my second set, with 1-2 minutes between sets. This is so normal. He kept coming to me every time he thought I was done. It was creepy.
