So Sunday was a stay at home day, but kinda busy cause I got all my new toys!!!
So I’m still waiting on my lazy susan thing that I won’t be able to use until BBQ season but I can’t wait! Also waiting on a step ladder I ordered.
I got so many things for my kitchen! It felt like xmas! Esp. since I told everyone but Will not to buy me things lol.
I got new dish towels for the kitchen. With so many cats and feeding stations, I use these dish towels for everything and they get washed frequently cause I’m dealing with cat food. So I finally decided to splurge and get a 3 pack more cause I just needed more in the rotation. And they’re really cute. All cat themed.
Also for the kitchen I got under cabinet lighting. My counter is flush with stuff under the cabinets and sometimes it seems a lil dark under there. So I got auto lights that are motion detected. I really do kinda live in the dark when Will isn’t around. You would think someone with seasonal depression would want ALL the lights on, but lightbulbs don’t really count. I need SUN. Maybe it’s just the depression in me that is ok with living in the dark, which is how I feel LOL
Also I think I just grew up with turning a light off if you don’t need it. Plus the TV is usually on and it’s HUGE so it gives the room light enough that I’m not tripping over cats or anything. But I like these under cabinet warm auto lights for if I’m getting myself a drink or something and I don’t want to turn on the big overhead light.
AND I got fire safe blankets. OK so I’ve wanted these for a while. So if you have a fire in the kitchen and you don’t have an extinguisher (which I do) or you’re too frazzled to use it in case of a real fire (which I might be). This blanket smothers all types of fires (kitchen, bbq, car, etc.). OR if you’re in a house fire you can put it over yourself to get out of the house.
I got a 2 pack. 1 for kitchen and 1 for garage (for bbq season) but maybe I should get 2 more for both our cars. I dunno. I gifted this to my sis at one point too cause she has a big air fryer in her downstairs area and she likes crispy things crispy, but sometimes it sets off the fire alarm and smells like things are burning cause I guess she doesn’t clean it out. So now she has it in her area just in case.
Fire extinguishers create a lot of mess and have expiration dates. These blankets do not. I suggest everyone get them. The brand I got is “prepared hero” but it’s not the only brand out there.
ALLLLLSOOOOOO I got a pan organizer. So me and Will have a lot of pots and pans. I think my mom gifted me her old stuff when I moved out on my own. When Will came he either brought his or we bought a new set. So we have a lot of repeats of the same pots and pans.
So the thing I got is like a lil shelf that stacks the pans on top of each other - almost like a shoe rack for pans. So it really helps us SEE what we have. And I showed it to Will. We don’t have room for anymore pans - unless it’s a small one. But I know he wants a BIG chili one - which is fine but he has to decide what we’re getting rid of then - cause I got rid of the JUMBLE of all the pots and pans and lids and I don’t want to just throw another pan or pan set in there and make it look all junky again…
For the bathroom got a lil shelf divider/organizer for my towel cabinet because my towels were really quite a mess without it. Now I can divide hand towels from wash rags from full body towels and everything just looks neater in there, even though I’m really the only one that goes in there and replaces the towels so I’m the only one that see it.... but it gives me a quiet joy.
For the living room I got these combs that you’re supposed to run through your rugs/carpet - basically comb the floor to pick up pet hair. I vacuum almost daily but I was SURE that the vacuum was not picking up all the cat hair and so I wanted this comb. Surprisingly the carpet is pretty clean. What was Not clean was all the cat beds and cat scratcher towers. So this rug/carpet comb worked really good on the fabric of the cat beds and towers. I like it a lot and will use it regularly.
Also I got shoe organizers for the front door. We don’t require people take their shoes off in my house, but even me and Will struggle to keep our shoes by the door because there’s not a lot of room. So now I got a shoe rack that holds I think 8 pairs of shoes, so we can keep boots vs sneakers in there and if anyone else wants to leave their shoes there, they can too.
I also got it for our bedroom cause Will has a ridiculous amount of sneakers. Way more shoes than I have and they’re LARGER. So even though I already have some sort of shoe caddy for him, I bought this for even MOAR shoe storage because he doesn’t even attempt to make room for his shoes anywhere. He’ll just take em off and leave em where they stand cause he knows his closet doesn’t have any space. It’s ridiculous. But NOW I think I have space for all his shoes AS LONG AS HE DOESN’T BUY ANYMORE.
I got more cat nip for the kitties. Catnip is so freaking messy but they love it and I was out of it. There is also cat nip spray that is Not messy, but it doesn’t seem as strong so they don’t go as wild for it. So I buy the messy catnip and vacuum as needed…
I also got those chin scratcher corner things I was talking about. These are like little combs or brushes that stick to the corners of your house. You stick em low and a cat can come up and rub their face on it. Which is really important to me cause Tux and Twisty always have grubby chins and they don’t want me to clean them so if they get use to brushing their own chins on this, it will help their chin acne. And they both have already used it, so Success!
I got myself some cat paper clips - which seem silly but I got something like this as a xmas gift years ago. And over time they’ve been stolen or lost - you know how office stuff goes. And by the end of last year I had no fun cat clips left. So I bought myself some more for the office. Who wants boring traditional paperclips??
I also bought things that were Will’s that were already in the cart, so he got some car lightbulbs and another eufy cam for the garage that he wanted.
The one thing I bought that is truly just for me were glitter pens that people use for the complicated coloring books I get.
I love doing those adult coloring books. I’ve actually always loved coloring since childhood. But my mom Hates the adult coloring books.
I’ve read that people who like the complicated coloring pages vs those who don’t are really people who like detail vs those who don’t. Some people want to see the whole forest and some people want to see the individual trees. When there are too many tiny things around, it might seems like chaos and clutter for some, while others can enjoy each item for what it is.
I def think, in the home, I like kind of a homey choas with lots of pictures and knick knacks. And some prefer a minimalist setting with clear tables and walls. What’s crazy is that my mom’s home is SUPER cluttered - but I really think that’s because of my sis and Emma. My mom’s home was never THIS bad. I mean the garage was always an issue but the amount of papers, toys and multiple of just everything around every room in the house now is just because there’s too many people living separately in one home.
Also some people are ok with slow progress and things being completed over time, and others want completion immediately and don’t like things dragged out. I don’t know how long it takes me to complete a page. And right now I’ve got 2 incomplete pages to do. And I don’t love that they’re incomplete, I just didn’t have the time last week. But they won’t stay incomplete lol - I have to finish them! And I love them once they’re done. I’m so impressed with myself once they’re done!
It’s kinda the same for people who love those LARGE puzzles and those who don’t. I don’t love large puzzles but I will do them if I have help. Like sometimes, on a vaca with family, we’d buy a LARGE puzzle and do it for days. This was long before Emma. She doesn’t have the patience.
It doesn’t make anyone right or wrong, it’s just different ways people decompress.
OK now to get to my title…
In the middle of me getting all my new toys my mom texted and told me her and my father were on the way to their local hospital because my father had trouble remembering.
My sis was dropping Emma off at the asshole’s, but eventually she went to the hospital and got the full story. She also brought dinner eventually which was very nice.
My father said he had errands to do and my mom asked him to stop by the train station and buy her monthly/yearly pass. I don’t actually know what she gets.
Anyway, my mom said that my father only remembered part of the trip driving. He remembered passing Emma’s school - which is walking distance away from their house - and then came back to the house because he forgot what he was supposed to be doing. But he doesn’t remember driving back to the house.
He searched his phone looking for a text from my mom that might have reminded him of where he was supposed to be going. But I guess everything between my mom and him was verbal, so there was no text instructions.
On his phone he noticed that it said January and that date didn’t seem right to him.
So he came back in the house and my mom was like what are you doing back? Cause he wasn’t out long. So he told her he felt “strange” and couldn’t remember what he left the house for. Then he asked her if it was January.
That scared her and she called the medics (I don’t know if that means she called 911 or some non emergency number) to take them both to the hospital. They left in an ambulance and neighbors saw. Neighbors were already asking my sis (before she left for the hospital) what was happening and she just said I don’t know because who wants those kind of details shared with neighbors?!
I don’t know what my sis stopped at home for, but then she went to the hospital cause my parents would need my sis to drive them back home at some point.
He did eventually remember what he was supposed to be doing and what month is was, but I don’t know how long it took him. Like did he remember immediately after he said that? While he was in the ambulance? Once he was at the hospital? How long did it take him to recover? That I don’t know and I could ask my mom but it would have to be at a moment that he wasn’t around so we’re not discussing him in front of him, you know?
I did tell her that Will sis has been saying her dad has been having small episodes like this for years. I think he’s 75 now but probably for the last 10 years he would forget things - like he’d be driving and have trouble finding his way home. But he always finds his way home. So it’s kinda like his memory is coming and going.
Also like our nana who is in her 80s. She often forgets common words that make having a conversation hard for her. But you just fill in the gaps for her and she’s fine. My father is just 60.
Both these people still live independently and so I don’t think my father is ready for a senior home just yet. But still it’s very scary for my mom. She didn’t cry, of course she didn’t, but I think this really changed things in both their lives and they have to start thinking seriously about what their end of life situations could be. I don’t know if Alzheimer’s runs in my father side. When does just being forgetful turn into something more serious. I mean if my nana is still living alone in her 80s then my father should be just fine, right?
I think they were at the hospital overall for 5 hours. My sis did get to them probably about 2 hours after they got there, but I don’t think she got to actually be with them. By the time she got there my parents were in a hallway (on a bed) inside the hospital and they didn’t let my sis past the waiting room.
At one point the fire alarm went off in the hospital that got everyone scared and wasn’t turned off for a long time, but it wasn’t an actual fire and they didn’t make anyone leave. It was just a layer of worry on top of everyone already in the hospital!
I was worried my father had one of those mini strokes people get. Or maybe even a blood clot situation. But the hospital said no. They ran a bunch of tests on him but I don’t know all they did. I know they did an EKG and chest scan. And probably asked him a bunch of questions but by then he remembered everything.
All my father’s tests came back normal, except they did note that his heart rate was low. Maybe his blood pressure was low and that created confusion? I really don’t know.
The only thing I know that does run in his family is high cholesterol - and he’s already on meds for that. I think he also takes extra garlic pills or something OTC for it. So he is aware and taking care of it but he is also over weight. The kinda of only beer belly over weight but he doesn’t really drink. It’s just where the fat has collected.
I don’t know if they gave him any advice regarding his lapse in memory. Maybe he should start playing those brain game apps that older people do to keep their brains sharp. Maybe he should change his diet? I’m no doctor.
Later that night Emma called from the asshole’s. He took her on a really nice Asian/sushi type birthday dinner. She had a good time. But my father, on the video called, looked worse for wear. He looked like he had been crying. His eyes and nose were red. And this was hours later.
I think he must be stressed/scared too. I mean if you can’t trust your own brain, what can you trust?? Losing your mind is the scariest thing, but I think he’s a long ways from it for now.
I wish the hospital had given him more answers/advice.
He is eventually going to go to his real primary doctor and see what they say.
Other than that, me and Will had broccoli and falafel with a garlicky lemon sauce for dinner. And it was SO GOOD but I forgot that veggies like broccoli and Cauliflower gas me to the moon in large quantities. So I suffered with a stomach ache for that. It’s too bad cause broccoli is my favorite veg. But in the last 5 years it’s really turned on me.
PPS today is Emma’s official birthday. But we did her family party this weekend cause Monday is an asshole day. My sis does get alloted a few hours with Emma - her right as a mom. But I don’t know that anything is really happening cause what can she do from 3 - 6 basically. I don’t know what, if anything, the asshole has planned because it seemed like she got a birthday dinner last night but I don’t know if they did presents with his family yet.
For the record I got Emma a Shrek dragon hoodie and a musical toothbrush. This kid hates to brush her teeth but she did like a one direction musical toothbrush I got her years ago. But that toothbrush is used to hell and I tried to get her the same one but One Direction was sold out and I had to get her lady gaga. She seemed to like it anyway.
NEXT weekend Emma is having a sleep over with I think 7 other girls. She’s ecstatic. I won’t be sleeping over that week. There’s a pet expo in town that I’m going with a work friend to. I may go again with Will another time cause he prob wants to see the stuff too.
His birthday is at the end of the month and I have no idea what he wants to do. A family thing, a friends thing, a quiet at home thing?
I also don’t know what I’m getting him off his Amazon list yet. I don’t know what I can freaking afford....
