Woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of my neighbour screaming my name outside my window. Thomas wake up! I heard her say something about a fire. She saw my light turn on. Wake up Toni! Omg!! Then I heard an explosion.

I put on my sweats, a sweater, and ran out into the rain. She was still hysterical. I was trying to understand her and grasp the situation at the same time. Your car! I could see the smoke from the lot. I could smell it. I could see light flickering. It’s done! The car is cooked! is the last thing I heard before I ran up to get my car keys. Her daughter followed me up so she could wake up more neighbors. Someone lit the cars on fire! I heard her screaming on the phone.

I fell asleep to the neighbours above me fighting so I’m wondering if they did something to the cars at this point. They’re fucking crazy like that. Lest we forget that the woman tried breaking into my suite midday to murder me. She’s also slashed tires while having one of her episodes. When I approached the parking lot, I saw that it wasn’t my car inflamed. It was the one next to mine. It was still exploding. Move your car! My neighbour said. Her daughter and I went and woke up the neighbours across from me so they can move their truck also. They park next to me. I was thinking that my car was burned through already and it moved onto the next one. The neighbours whose car was on the other side of the burning one came running out. We live in an old wood building, she had her grandson with her. He looked 7? She was worried the building was next. Her window faces the parking lot and all she saw was flames higher than the building.

The fire department put out the fire. We stood back in the parking lot. It was dark, it was smoky, I couldn’t tell if my car was okay or not. It’s fine. The neighbours whose car was the one that was inflamed came out. The man was just in his skivvies. They were too in shock to say anything. They only spoke with the fire department.

So now I’m awake enough to understand what was happening. My neighbour below me couldn’t sleep because of the fighting above me. Then she heard an explosion. Smelt smoke when she looked out of her window. She went out and saw the flames. She called 911, and was screaming at me so I could move my car.

There was a moment when I thought that it was my car. I’m insured. I reminded myself. I paid for extra warranty and if my car gets written off, they will cover the depreciation value. I’ll get back the full amount that I paid. Then I remembered all the hand drums in my trunk. The trunk of my car is full of work stuff. I haven’t been to my office since Thursday. I handmade drums and drum bags for my kids at work. I had them in my trunk. Even when I thought my car was on fire, I was ready to try and retrieve them.

I got my downstairs neighbour, whom I have a relationship with, to help bring up all of my drums. Now I’m in bed trying to calm down and sleep. This has been a dismal week. Friday can’t come fast enough. I leave for BC.
