I played a show tonight that took me 2 hours from home. It was a restaurant venue. They told me after that there was 15 people there. Before the show, I was eating a ton of humble pie. The last time I played this gig the place was packed. Now, there was a storm in the area so maybe they was some of it.
About 3 songs in - I settled it in myself that I was going to be present in the moment. I began to connect with some of the people. There was one elderly couple that was the sweetest. They told me they came to see me. They hung on every song. When the show was almost over they had to leave and she turned around at the door, leaning on her walker, and stood at the backdoor and clapped during the song. Something in me said - she’s happy…you did your job - this moment will never happen again.
There was a dad that had his daughter with him. She was mentally disabled. I met with them during my break…when I went back I asked her to sing with me. No one could understand a word but it was the most beautiful moment.
I will continue to be present in the moment. I want more moments like this. Moments where I know that something in the universe is shifting for someone because I was where I was supposed to be. There to leave a smile and a memory that will last a while.
What would the world be like if we all chased the moments.
